No.1 Malatang in Sydney offers an interesting take on the popular Chinese street food. The concept is simple: you choose the ingredients you want in your soup from a vast selection of fresh vegetables, meats, seafood, and noodles. You then weigh your chosen items and pay by weight. The soup base options are varied, ranging from spicy to mild and featuring flavors like Sichuan, tomato, and mushroom.
The quality of the ingredients was generally good. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, and the meats were decent quality. However, I found some of the seafood options to be slightly overcooked. The soup itself was flavorful, though perhaps not as authentically spicy as I've experienced elsewhere.
The atmosphere at the restaurant was lively and casual, typical of a popular eatery. Service was efficient, and the staff were friendly and helpful in guiding us through the ordering process.
Overall, No.1 Malatang provides a fun and customizable dining experience. It's a good option for a casual meal with friends, especially if you enjoy the interactive element of choosing your own ingredients. However, the quality of the food wasn't consistently excellent, and the spiciness level might not be strong enough for those seeking an authentic Sichuan peppercorn experience.

ย ย ย Read moreMala tang is always my place to go to eat whenever possible, i just simply find it satisfying for my stomach.
This place is good enough, people said this is number one in sydney and iโm not quite agree with them. Donโt get me wrong, the choices is plenty enough ( although my favourite is not there ), place is cozy enough, they have table for 2, 4, and 6 people separated, neat, and free choices of garnish like coriander, spring onion, fried onion, etc.
Soup is good enough, tried the most popular choice and i find it okay, no complaint about that. Probably will try the other else later someday
The only thing thatโs holding me to give 5 stars is the price or more like payment problem, this place is good for those who have cash in their wallet instead of cards, but for me and most likely most of people here who only bring cards most of the time ( because of convenience ) this place might not be as good. They have minimum of $20 if you want to play by card, and $20 for mala tang is A lot actually, so the only thing you can do to go around it is to buy the drink which is obviously overpriced.
Other than that, this is a good place to go for mala tang other than Zhang Liang, so give it a try for everyone who never tried before. Have a good one
P.S : my portion is only $14 and the drink was $3.50,...
