My partner and I walked around in Cronulla and were hankering for some fish and chips. We remembered we came to Notaras a while back, so we decided to come back and give it a shot. The place is as we remember it, though being a Thursday evening, it was not as packed (thankfully). I ordered a fish and chips and my partner got a grilled fish and chips. The first thing I was so thankful of was tartare sauce that's in small containers put to the side. Now most places generally make their own or something, but this one relies on commercial brands, so that's something to keep in mind! Both the grilled and battered fish were very fresh ; no sense of sliminess as one would expect from frozen fish, and the meat was succulent and firm. The battered fish is, as you would expect, crispy! It was just slightly under-seasoned, but you can taste the fish better this way. The grilled fish in contrast punches with its spices (my partner got lemon and herbs as the seasoning) make themselves well known. The chips were nice, fluffy inside with firm outside. Some chips were soggy but that's to be expected since the fish was plated on the fries. It isn't as salted as most other fish & chip places but I appreciate that as it allows me to put more salt according to my taste! Notaras also offers other packs which include other forms of seafood like calamari, and we'll very likely come back to try again! This place is a definite recommend! P.s. they do have small bottles of wine in the chiller so it's certainly a good date night place after being by the beaches for a bit! ;)

This is a great Fish Market with beautiful seafood which is always very fresh. You only have to look at the glistening eyes of the whole fish & the colour of the fish fillets as well. They also have a great range of cooked prawns, usually about 3 or 4 different types to choose from plus fresh green prawns as well. Lovely oysters on the shell both Sydney Rock & Pacific ones. Also great crustaceans like Blue Swimmer & Mud crabs, cooked & green, plus cooked lobsters & live ones from the tank. There is also a really good range of frozen seafood in the freezer which includes things like Blue Swimmer meat, Green Lobster tails & Abalone. They also do cooked fish & chips in the shop next to the fresh seafood market as well. I have been there many times & have always enjoyed it. But being a fisherman myself I don't go for the generic fish on offer & specify what type of cooked fish I want which might cost a bit more but is definitely worth it.

One of my favourite fish and chips joints in Sydney hands-down! All the important boxes are ticked, from the delicious menu with lots of variety, to the freshness of the ingredients used, to the portion size/value for money. The restaurant is also next-door to a decent-size fish market so you can get your fish 'n' chips fix and do your grocery shopping at the same time! The only area for improvement is the service, as I have often found myself waiting for almost 30 minutes for my order, hovering over the counter, drooling profusely over other people's food and contemplating whether it would be quicker if I could jump over the counter and give the kitchen staff a helping hand. If you love fish and chips, do make a special trip to Cronulla and try out the goodies. NOTE - be prepared to wait a little while before you can sink your teeth into it.

This place used to be called Michael's (IIRC) and had a great reputation for being one of the best fish and chip shops in the Shire but these days it seems that they've changed hands and by our experience have obviously changed quality too.

Our experience started with enquiring about one of their seafood packs that would suit a couples hunger which included the 'catch of the day'. After asking what the 'catch of the day' was that day we were met with the response of 'flake' (shark).

Really? You've got a fresh seafood shop that customers and staff can enter through via your chip shop with an abundance of different fish and other seafood and your 'catch of the day' is flake?!?

We ordered the seafood pack anyway because we figured that if they can't even cook the basic chips, flake, calamari right then there was no way we'd spend even more money only to be disappointed.

Our decision was the right one as the batter was more than enough and the signage near the counter stating that crumbing etc would cost extra was enough for us to realise that this was not the same seafood shop that had the great reputation is used to have. Our local seafood places growing up would probably balk at the idea of charging extra for stuff like crumbing. Their opinion of calling flake the 'catch of the day' would be something they wouldn't even try to fool customers with I'd assume.

I only say that because none of them ever tried those crumby tactics. Pun intended (no cost to you for that one).

The only positive thing I have to say about our experience would be that the chips were fat and potatoey and enjoyable, just the way chips should be. The rest of the meal though, I'll try somewhere...

I have been a customer at this place for quite some time now, and I can confidently say that I keep coming back for a reason. If you're in the mood for some delicious fish and chips, then look no further. This place undoubtedly serves the best fish and chips in Cronulla.

One of my personal favorites from their menu is the "Little Nippers." The combination of perfectly fried fish and crispy chips creates a mouthwatering experience. Additionally, if you're in the mood for something a bit different, I highly recommend trying their Spanish paella. It's bursting with flavors and showcases their culinary expertise.

My husband has a particular fondness for their "Octopus Delight," and I can understand why. The octopus is always tender and succulent, leaving you craving for more. It's clear that they prioritize using fresh ingredients, as the quality of their seafood is consistently top-notch.

Not only is the food exceptional, but the service is also outstanding. The staff members are all incredibly friendly and welcoming. I've always felt valued as a customer here. It's a small gesture, but I appreciate how they wave at you when you're entering the restaurant. It makes you feel like a part of their extended family.

If you're looking for a place to satisfy your fish and chips cravings, I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment. The combination of delicious food, friendly staff, and welcoming atmosphere creates an unforgettable dining experience. Trust me, you won't regret...
