Great food and staff - everything is made fresh daily, no bought-in curry paste mixes, which aren't actually so bad and I've seen other Thai restaurants use - this is real mortar and pestle grinding and mixing every ingredient for the day - super fresh and authentic.
A few times I've been delayed, and know they shut at 10PM, so I've rung my take-away order through as I walk through two suburbs - so I say will be 20 minutes and hope to just make it in time - the staff know me by now so have never had a no show, but every time they've waited until I get there and cook my meal fresh (they do a great chilli basil stir fry) - very considerate, and also it's ready quickly - perfectly cooked with some nice snap still in the veges.
Most certainly the best Thai food between Elizabeth Bay and Darlinghurst, and very reasonably priced for a good sized fresh and healthy treat. Lunch specials are a few dollars less, and there's no change in size or attention to detail.
Always nice to have an excellent Thai restaurant - it's my local even though I walk through two suburbs and past several other Thai restaurants to get there. You just have to walk in and you can tell...
Read moreYour female front-of-house was charming and went out of her way to find us and deliver your extraordinarily unpleasant food. Seriously guys, when you order the ‘Chef’s Special Roast Duck’ you don’t expect random pineapple pieces, unidentifiable seafood blobs and carrots. The sweetness of the curry was beyond belief - so bad we couldn’t eat it. With your entree of mixed money bags, spring rolls etc, there were peanuts or cashew nuts in one of the offerings. That’s my fault - I should’ve checked first. I’m violently allergic to peanuts. Spat it out just in time.
Hey, if you’re Thai chefs, cook genuine Thai food. Don’t try and cater to everyone. Minimize your menu to the dishes you excel at. Please. Melbourne and Adelaide tourists expect a much higher standard - even in Kings Cross.
One more thing - I suspect 80% of your 5 star reviews are from family and friends. Like I said before, just cook what you know and are good at. Keep it authentic, cos you’re in a great...
Read moreWhen I first moved to Sydney, I called Kings Cross home. I lived in a lodge off the strip and so became very familiar with the local eateries. Pad thai quickly became a twice weekly event because as the name would suggest, they do GREAT pad thai!
For about $12 you can get a large steaming plate of fresh wonderfully flavoursome noodles that is well balanced with the obligatory sweet, salty, acidic flavours as any good pad thai should be.
I wouldn't exactly call Pad Thai a restaurant, but more a hawkers stall cum hole in the wall takeout. The decor leaves a lot to be desired, but the Pad Thai is worth the visually unappealing interior. You could always try sitting outside on the plastic table and chairs as Pad Thai is a stone throw from one of the busiest and most highly entertaining intersections in the cross, so there is never a dull moment.
This is inner city value dining at its...
