Service was good. The waitress was very friendly and welcoming when we arrived this morning at 8:30am. She was also very helpful by getting us a high chair for our 15 month old. The food presentation was great too, however the coffee was not nice, it was weak. The French toast brioche was stale! And they charge a ‘Sunday Surcharge’, so be mindful of this. For 2 adults the Sunday surcharge was $3.98. The London breakfast was okay - just like any other big breakfast plate. The baked beans were from a can and the chorizo was quite oily. The good thing is I was able to change the ‘fried eggs’ to scramble. I’ve had their lunch special during the weekdays here - the pizza and that was good. But I wouldn’t come back for breakfast again unless they improve their barista; as coffee is an essential part of any breakfast! and kill their Sunday Surcharge. —updated post Came back here again for 2 x lunches over the last month; one with my partner and toddler and the other time with work. Lunch is great! Waitresses at both occasions were friendly despite one of the occasions we went was during the Boar Show, so it was super busy. Both times I had the burger $18.00 Lunch Express meal and it was delicious!!! I have changed my google star review from 3 starts to 5 out of 5 on the basis of my lunch experience with Planar Restaurant! Great view too of the Harbour!

This was by far the worst dining experience we have had in many years and I am not one to complain BUT this place is truly something embarrassing. DO NOT go here unless you're happy to wait 45 minutes between each meal course (entrée, main and dessert) and you're also satisfied NOT receiving basic table service even though the location and prices would otherwise suggest this. The food was not bad but it was not great, it was just okay. However, the service is what failed most. We went to this restaurant on the 3rd January for a 7:30pm reservation and were eventually able to finished our dessert and pay at 10pm. We have eaten at all types of establishments ranging from fancy Hat restaurants and places like Bennelong and Aria right down to McDonalds and your 2am Kebab crawl. Therefore, I can obviously appreciate what level of service would be suitable and should be expected for various types of venues and establishments. We were obviously not expecting 'silver service' or anything special, just your essentials 101 basic table service. Staff members did NOT bring cutlery until prompted. Staff members did NOT bring napkins until prompted (even though we had BBQ ribs - which should actually have wet wipes and bibs, even hurricanes brings this). Staff member did NOT clear the plates before the next course came out (we ate our desserts with our mains stacked everywhere). Staff members did NOT offer table water (even though we finished wines and cocktails) until the end of service when we prompted staff. Staff did NOT check in on us throughout the dinner service to see if everything was okay OR if we wanted to order anything else (like drinks perhaps?). The waiter took our mains order after we had finished the entrée and therefore we had to wait almost an hour for the mains to arrive. This experience was NOT just our table, I was observing the whole restaurant and many other tables had similar service issues. When I went to pay the bill, I asked to speak to a manager to inform them of the dining experience (as listed above). At first there was no manager, then apparently a lady came forward and said she was the manager. I politely informed her of the above and NOT even a sincere apology or an offer to take something off the bill as a sign of goodwill (which I would have refused on principle, because it was about the service not the costs). I also reiterated to her that for this prime location in Darling Harbour and restaurant type, the service IS NOT acceptable and it needs to be better. All she responded with was "Yes, sorry, normally it's not like this, we were just so busy tonight". It was only moderately busy (still empty tables around us). I would suggest the owner check the revenue for this night to confirm how busy it really was. An extremely disappointing experience. I feel bad for any visitor to Sydney who has to tolerate this restaurant and think this is what Sydney has to offer. Abysmal.

I went here recently for a friend's birthday and it was very underwhelming. When I first found out about Planar, I thought it was this fancy, Modern Australian restaurant but it definitely wasn't. We ordered the pizza, pasta and ribs and they looked amazing! But the ribs were a bit cold and the servings weren't as big as we expected, considering the price. The ribs say '5 spice' but it was more like '5 bags of sugar', it was very sweet and not very enjoyable. Looking at other reviews, it seems the food here is not up to the standard as other restaurants and we completely agree. Our waiter was very nice to us, but the customer service was very bad. We asked a lady for cutlery and plates twice but she never came back with them, so we asked the waiter and then he finally gave it us. For dessert, we brought a cake to the restaurant and when we received it, I was very shocked. It took so long to get the cake and now we understand why. It looked like someone had dropped it and put whipped cream and strawberries to cover it all up. Here is the image. This was not the cake we gave to the restaurant. Something happened to the cake in the kitchen and they didn't even tell us beforehand about what happened and just decided to cover it all up. And they had the guts to serve it to us with not mentioning anything about what happened at all. They tried to apologise after we waited so long and after they gave us another small cake and a discount on the bill as compensation. They played Happy Birthday music but we were not impressed. I do not blame the waiters for the cake mishap, this could've been dealt better by the management and the kitchen staff. Who flips an entire cake over, that's just common knowledge to not flip it over. We were deeply disappointed with the restaurant as we expected so much better treatment and service. I will not be coming to Planar anytime soon. - 1 star for the atmosphere and waiter.

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in Sydney which is shocking since the price to dine here is so insanely high, you would expect high quality service, food and atmosphere. Our table upon arriving was sticky and hadn’t been cleaned, the seats were covered in crumbs and the tables were placed so close together that the waiters and people walking by were hitting the back of my chair. Decided to order the wagyu fried rice with kimchi at a price point of about 40 dollars, expecting it to have high quality meat for how expensive it was. Couldn’t have been more wrong, when the food came out I received a heaping pile of rice as dry as sand and the “wagyu” was actually one piece of shredded beef with no flavour at all. Not exaggerating, there was one piece of meat. I could’ve bought 5 bags of rice for that price and cooked it better myself instead of being served some dry rice on a plate. We also got some sort of pasta that was equally as expensive and heaped like nothing else. Ended up paying for quantity not quality. As well as this, we had to request cutlery and water for the table. The staff just seemed generally confused and untrained. The food and drinks also took a lifetime to arrive to our table. As well as this, our cocktail drinks which were about 20 dollars each were filled up about halfway and tasted average. Horrible experience do not go here and save your tastebuds, this restaurant is a total waste of time and money.

Happy hour food was pretty good. Drinks were good too. Quite a decent espresso martini for $12. But the service is abysmal. It took them 5 minutes to great us, just to tell us to take a seat outside. We were intercepted before we got to the table and told to move inside as the outdoor area was closed for a function. It then took them about 15 minutes to get us a menu. After waiting about another 10 or so minutes we had to go up and order. There were only about 15 - 20 other customers there at the time. And the 4 or so tables around us all eventually got up to order as well. Then a lady who was potentially one of the owners pulled a PA system out of a cupboard, and proceeded to do a sound check with it pointed right towards the only 4 or 5 tables of patrons, rather than pointing it anywhere else. The squealing etc went on for a few minutes. Basically it seems there were no wait staff assigned to that half of the restaurant. Or they're not trained in how to serve tables. One of them dropped a full water bottle on the floor when clearing a table and just left it there for someone to trip on. If this place was located anywhere else I'd assume it would go out of business. I think potentially they survive solely on the business of people who attend the ICC and don't know any better.

Came here last Sunday. We ordered Rib Eye Steak Medium, Mussles Hot Pot, Pizza, and Full Rack Ribs. Rates on the food: When menu says Mussle Hot Pot, expectation was it should be in Hot Pot? It was on cold plate! Although taste was ok, but was not happy with presentation on cold plate. Taste was good though. We sat outside so they quickly went cold. Pizza was standard, OK. Steak was Ok. Good portion with salad and potatoes. The meat was medium well than medium. But nonetheless, meat was good quality. Easy to chew on and not tough. It was not on point, but it didn't dissapoint entirely. The one that we most disappointed was 😫 😪 the Full Rack Ribs.. menu says meat was marinated with five spice. But the meat stunk so bad. I almost threw up.. the smell was unbelievable. My sons refused to eat.. we had to take home and re cooked .. ..not sure what they put in it. How they cooked it, but it was the worse Ive tasted. The smell was unflattering..even after we re cooked. Smell stayed. The ambience of the restaurant was a top notch. Our spot was great, so no complains there. Service was fast, there weren't so many people there..so as expected.
