Shenkin Newtown Espresso Bar — Restaurant in Sydney

This tiny cafe is a genuine espresso bar. It is not designed for a long stay. The limited number of stools turn over quickly.

There is an energy here that is true espresso bar Italian style. The dudes behind the counter are very observant about customer needs. They engage in great conversation when appropriate. They exude a passion for their coffee and sound genuinely happy when you order something and enjoy it. My short stay there was lovely.

Anyone who reads my other review will find I usually photograph the food of something about the venue I am visiting. This time I was so keen to try the great looking macchiato (my test of a cafe) that suddenly all I had to photograph was an empty glass. The macchiato was excellent.

The only food I tried was a terrific chunky chocolate chip cookie. It also did not last long - no photo. It was so good I bought three more as a gift for my friend where I was about to have dinner.

I highly recommend Shenken. I had to wait ten or so minutes for a place to open up so I walked a little and returned. There are not many true espresso...

I'm thoroughly impressed and amazed by Shenkin's staff, their values as a business, the quality, the care, the personality, effort and passion this business puts out towards the public from their heart. The manager and supervisor spoke to me with a lot of confidence, passion and enthusiasm and it gave me a great impression of the cafe itself that kept up on my second visit.

I got a mocha and freshly baked apple strudel and a croissant. It was my first time trying an apple strudel and it was amazing ~ warm and flaky with sweet apples. I went back for an iced mocha because my warm one just tasted so rich and beautiful. The coffee is great, However the staffing sevices are really terrible and unprofessional ! If you are making coffee pls concentrate on making coffee.. dont look around and stop for chatting! Three staffing but only one satff making coffee and the staff who makng coffee look around and slow, how many people are waiting? Always need to wait more than 15 minutes for my coffee to be ready! Why the only staff who making cannot pay attention on making coffee so people waiting time will be less and less people crowded in the store! Why she showed this facial expression “not willing” ? If you dont want to be in your job just quit! Dont make people wait forever for coffee! So frustrating! Each time I been there, same issues!
