Location: Great location on King St in Newtown. Food Quality: There's definitely only 2 to 3 Vietnamese restaurants in Newtown, but the food here are very similar to what you would get in Hanoi, Vietnam. With great quality and a mild taste I think it's a great place to have lunch or dinner. Try the Vietnamese pancakes which I love to make at home.
However, a part from the pho (beef noodle soup) the other soups aren't just at the calibre like in Vietnamese areas like Cabrammatta or Bankstown or even Footscray (in Melbourne). Papaya salad is a definite must-order if you would love to try the mild aromatic fish-sauce and mild vinegar dressing.
Portion sizes are quite normal for a restuarant - filling and sizeable. But, my appetite is quite large so for me I could eat a lot more than an average person at one meal.
Service: Very friendly and attentive (5/5) stars for service. Environment: Clean and organised. Interesting fact: There's this one waiter that is always so cheery and great to have around at Tre Viet. Made my date and I have a memorable experience of him.
OVERALL: I would rate this place a (4/5) in terms of other food options in Newtown. But a (3/5) in comparison to the authenticity and flavours of Vietnamese food at many restaurants all throughout Sydney and Melbourne. Tre Viet would be a great dinner or lunch option. I definitely enjoy the...
Read moreI went here on the 18th of February around dinner time earlier this year, choked on a chicken bone and had to go to the emergency room for 19 hours to remove it. The staff did not care, I was sitting there with my two friends vomiting for about 30 minutes, at my table, into our food bowls, and not a single staff member came over to ask if I was okay or if I needed a bag. We were on the phone to 000 in the store, and I guess that wasnât an indicator either to see if I was okay. They just watched me every now and again, giving us weird looks as if we were inconveniencing them while I was visibly in pain and throwing up. We werenât far from the staff, sitting pretty much right in front of the register. When we were leaving to walk over to the emergency room after talking to 000 we had to ask for a bag as we left so that I could continue throwing up. I donât remember what chicken dish it was but I guess a bone splintered and I accidentally swallowed it and it became lodged in my oesophagus, the RPA had to put me on general anaesthetic the next morning after waiting 19 hours to perform a gastroscopy. I can only imagine what would have happened if it was lodged in my windpipe or trachea. The manager on duty should have some first aid training and be able to administer that, or at the very least situational awareness and compassion? Food wasnât even that...
Read moreWe ordered caramelised fish in hot pot ($24.50l, caramelised pork, and stir fried vegetables. They were absolutely terrible. The fish was so hard and dried, not fresh. It was bland, had no flavour of sweet and salty of the sauce or the fat from the fish. They said it's Ling fish but this dish traditionally used cat fish, barramundi or salmon. The cook should be fired. Why would you use Ling fish as it's the wrong type of fish and it's expensive. Dare I say, they lied! The stir-fry vegetables came with a lot of boy choy and carrots swimming in watery corn sauce spread over a plate. It was not appetising. The caramelised pork was equally bad with cheaply cut pork fat. You're giving vietnamese food a bad name. For emtre, we had roll your own prawn rice paper, and that was enjoyable. To the restaurant owner, please get a new cook, and use good fresh ingredients,. Be authentic as diners...
