It was a week after of C&G offering their newly added dinner service. I went with a friend on Friday, 22 November 2024. It was mainly our table only and a couple of others that night. But mainly us since we basically stayed until closing time. The cocktails all read delicious and they were in fact delicious and reasonably priced. They're right up my alley - sweet and the alcohol in a supporting role, it only started to hit me on my second cocktail. Even the experimental one that the mixologist created on the fly was delish.
We of course had the 6-course tasting menu and the most memorable is the cucumber spaghetti. Intense cucumber umami, unexpected, surprising and very interesting. Strangely, I still think about it. Nothing I've tried before anywhere else. The same with the dessert as well, it was leaning towards savoury but it was still light and creamy! ๐คฏ I liked the squid it was clean tasting and had refreshing flavours.
Towards the end of the night, we had the opportunity to speak to Chef James where we discovered it's quality over quantity for 20 guests only. An experience for food lovers alike and bookings are highly recommended. We were made aware that not a lot of advertising was done to promote the dinner service but now all that has changed thanks to the Perth foodie influencers of instagram. Now they're fully booked out early next year. I'll be back when the menu changes up though! Looking...
ย ย ย Read moreSuch a shame that this was my first impression of a Perth cafe, visiting from interstate.
After sitting down and waiting far too long to even be acknowledged, I ended up going up to the counter to order myself.
I ordered the โThat really French my toastโ โ which I assume is meant to be a quirky play on French toast. What I got? Not French toast. Not even close. It was literally toasted banana bread. For $25.
I waited 20 minutes (I checked my bank notification from the time I paid to when the food finally came out) โ twenty minutes โ for a couple slices of toasted banana bread. No sign of egg, no hint of โFrench toastโ vibes. I even dissected it trying to work out where the โeggie breakfastโ part came in. Spoiler: there wasnโt one. Maybe consider renaming the dish so customers know theyโre just ordering banana bread at luxury pricing.
To top it off, Iโd also ordered a juice โ which I assumed would come with or even before my meal. Nope. After waiting 20 minutes for banana bread, there was still no juice. I went up to ask, only to be told โitโs the next one theyโre making,โ which honestly felt like code for we forgot about it. I waited another 7 minutes and had to get it takeaway because I was out of time.
No apology for the wait on food or drink. No care factor from staff at all.
Awful experience from start to finish. So disappointing. A complete waste of...
ย ย ย Read moreWe visited this place today with high expectations. The first impression of the cafรฉ-restaurant was that it was charming and beautifully decorated. The ambiance was great and felt like an ideal spot for both a cafรฉ and a restaurant.
We ordered two dishes: bibimbap and fettuccine pasta. Unfortunately, considering the price and quality of the food, it did not live up to our expectations. While we understand that brunch menus tend to be more expensive than regular meals, the food itself was quite ordinary.
If bibimbap is presented as a brunch dish priced over $30, it should justify its cost with exceptional presentation and the use of seasonal ingredients to enhance its value. As for the sambal fettuccine, it lacked any distinct character or uniqueness in flavor.
The staff didnโt have any major issues, but most of them seemed quite young and inexperienced in handling customers. Despite the restaurantโs fantastic atmosphere, the lack of refined service and the quality of the food were disappointing.
Personally, I truly hope this beautiful place succeeds. However, I sincerely urge the owners to reconsider the balance between price, food quality, and service from the customersโ perspective.
Lastly, the quality of the coffee was also below average, which was bit...
