Upon arrival it was nice to see a professional atmosphere with a reception desk with a staff of friendly greeters. There was a little bit of a caffufle with regards to identification. Head of reception intervened. They want to see a photo of you - something new?? My husband didn't have one and they wouldn't accept mine since reservations were made in his name. They asked for his email, yet the lack of a photo was still an issue. Finally, reception gave in, upgraded our room, gave us two drink vouchers and had a bottle of wine sent up to our room. All good. The room was nice enough, but what was the room upgraded from -? It looked like a standard room with the exception from the king size bed promoted from a queen - again, all good; $295/night. After the wine showed up, we ordered a cheese & cracker platter to be sent up, as the restaurant on ground level was closed until 4:00. We ordered it at 3:25; it arrived at 4pm. How long does it take to get a plate of cheese and crackers organized? Though it was more like just a few crackers, tiny slices of a little bit of cheese and a ton of dried fruit; not much of a cheese platter for $21. We had dinner at around 6:30 at the now-opened restaurant - not very impressive. My husband had tandoori pizza, which tasted much like a supermarket value frozen pizza. I ordered the burger and was offered a side salad since I didn't want the chips. The order arrived with no salad. Went back up to the service counter, they verified I indeed had a salad coming to me, they left, I waited about 6 minutes. I went back to my table at which point the wait staff said a salad was being newly prepared. It arrived. No dressing. If there had been then it was tasteless and/or hardly any of it on it. Peeking at the bottom of the bowl, I did see a faint drop of some kind of yellowish liquid - what was it?? Not dressing. The lettuce was damp with what seemed to be,,, uh, water(?!). Went back to the service counter asking for the dressing; they took it, returned it, still no dressing. At least it was a decent burger; $57 all in for one burger and a blase pizza. Next morning: Breakfast, included with our stay. Lots and lots of choices, buffet style, you could also order specifically, as there were little slips of paper in a little cup with other little things, advertising as such, but you didn't know that until you filled your plate with barely-warm mediocre food and brought it to your table, with it turning to ice cold within 5 minutes, The food looked to be on top of burners in pots, yet hardly warm. Regarding the made-to-order option, they ought to have the staff who greets you inform you of this choice; or is it just designed that way so the cook wouldn't have to carry out the task -? Conclusively, there had been a small heap of rubbish in front of the door of the room next to us that sat there for hours until I finally mentioned it to the front desk. This hotel is not representative of the Sheraton whatsoever. It's an affordable option to a slight step up from a lesser accommodation. But kudos to the lead reception guy making an awkward situation right, very pleasant staff, including bar & restaurant staff, and the room for its cleanliness. Sub par, three stars at most. I'd keep my options opened while looking for accommodations, but if you choose this hotel, enjoy the friendly staff, clean room, a cocktail, but don't bother eating there, not...
Read moreI honestly expected a lot more from a Four Points hotel.
Room: I got a family room, which was meant for 2 people but had the option of an additional bed for the 3rd person. Room was fairly large and spacious, even after the additional bed was added. You can sort of tell that the room is quite old with the furnishings, but it was quite well lit. Biggest complaint was the air conditioning - the room was just absolutely sweltering hot with no air circulation. The thermostat control in the room was useless and the temperature / air flow remains the same, no matter what you do on that thermostat. Had to call down to reception, who said that they would have their engineering team turn on the air conditioning. After which, it was much better but the air con was on full blast blowing directly at the beds, so it got too cold after a while. Called down to reception to have it adjusted by 1-2 degrees, which resulted in the ai conditioning being turned off again. I’m not really sure what sort of 4 star hotel requires guests to call reception to have their air conditioning turned on / controlled, with the air conditioning only coming with the options of on vs off.
Service: Front desk is average at best - unfriendly and gives the impression that they don’t really want to be there, but at least got their jobs done efficiently. Housekeeping was terrible - in the few days I was there, I had to consistently remind them to set up the room for 3 people (we got a family room with additional bed). Carpeted room floors were not vacuumed or cleaned in the 4-5 days I was there for either - there were sand and hair all over the entrance to the room. We left 1 used cup in the room, but that was not washed or even rinsed, just left dirty.
Location: It’s right outside the RAC Arena, so convenient if you have business there on your trip. Otherwise, the hotel is a good 15min walk from the Perth train station and the central part of Perth city. There are some free CAT buses between the hotel and train station / city centre, but these services stop very early on weekends. The walk to the train station does not feel very safe for solo females, as it is not well lit and I had a homeless person following me and shouting at me as I was walking.
Please remember to check your bill as well after you leave, especially if you had booked a 3 person family room. I’ve read many reviews about how others were charged for an additional bed for the 3rd person in the room, even though their initial booking was already for 3 people. As such, I had emailed to clarify with the hotel earlier to confirm that my booking and price was indeed for 3 people. At that point of time, there was already confusion from the hotel as they gave me different answers when I had asked several times. Finally confirmed that the price I had booked for was indeed for 3 people. However upon checkout, I realise I was billed for an additional 3rd person. I was lucky to have checked the bill and the hotel had to check before providing a refund for that 3rd bed charged.
Overall, I’d check to see if there are other better located hotels closer to / within the city centre. Even if these other hotels are 2-3 stars, you’re not missing out on much since this Four Points definitely feels like a 3 star hotel at max. And these other hotels would definitely be better priced without the Marriott...
Read moreI had visited this hotel last year for a conference but had not stayed there previously. I had stayed at many of the Perth hotels and was a Accor gold member but was a Starwood novice. I stayed for an anniversary and received a complimentary upgrade to a studio room. The initial contact with front desk staff was excellent and at no time in my stay did I notice any queue. All staff members were very helpful and the housekeeping staff kept in the background with no door knocking which I found very refreshing. The room was spotlessly cleaned with a very comfortable bed and very efficient individually controlled air conditioner. The view from the window was good with efficient drapes. There was very little noise at night with no disruption to sleeping. The bathroom was extremely spacious with good individual toiletries. The shower control was well separated from the shower head which was a very good design. The shower head had excellent pressure and water temperature control. The wardrobe had ample hanging space with a safe and iron with ironing board together with bathrobes and slippers. The room had a good sized fridge which was empty and could be filled with food and drink purchased at the front desk or externally. The lifts were quick with minimal wait times and security to the floors was assured with keycard operation. The gym was small but well equipped although there is no pool. I didn't eat at the restaurant this time but the food provided at the conference was good. The location is excellent as it is opposite and adjacent to the stops for the free Cat bus and there is a path over the train line to the restaurants and entertainment of the Northbridge precinct. The hotel is also a short walk to the city shops and Elizabeth Quay or the outlet shops at Watertown. It is also not far from King's Park and the railway station is very accessible. There is an adjacent convenience store with many others a...
