It’s been over a year since Miss Lee's changed management, and sadly, the service has gone downhill ever since. My family and I have been loyal patrons for years, hoping that the decline in service was just a temporary glitch, but after multiple visits and no improvement, we’ve finally had to face the disappointing truth.
Our last visit was a few months ago, and even then, the service was subpar. We were considering giving the restaurant one more try tonight, holding onto a shred of hope that things might have turned around. However, after reading all the recent reviews and seeing how similar they are to our own experiences, we’ve decided to look elsewhere.
What’s particularly disheartening is that even when we directly mentioned our concerns to the boss—whether it was about the food not being up to standard or some other issue—we were met with indifference. The bare minimum was done to address our complaints, and when we expressed that we wouldn’t be coming back for a long time, the response was just a lukewarm “I’m very sorry about that.” It’s as if our concerns fell on deaf ears.
It’s also notable that none of the reviews—whether positive or negative—have received any replies from the restaurant. This lack of engagement speaks volumes about their attitude towards customer feedback and improvement.
It seems that the restaurant's prime location in town keeps them busy enough with foot traffic, allowing them to overlook regular customers’ criticisms without feeling the need to improve. The glowing reviews that continue to keep their rating high on Google are undoubtedly remnants of the excellent service and quality under the previous management. Unfortunately, the current owners don’t seem to deserve the reputation they’ve inherited.
It’s a shame to see such a beloved place fall from grace, but for those who remember what Miss Lee’s used to be, it’s time to find a new...
Read more(2.5 stars) For a quick’n’dirty Chinese feed in Wollongong, Miss Lee’s certainly looked like the place to be. Plus, it happened to be open on a public holiday… We made two selections from a reasonably extensive but terribly photographed menu of mostly Chinese dishes. Fire chicken with cheese ($13.80) is more of a whacky fusion entry. It takes an excellent Korean dish, buldak, and makes it, well, quite boring and bland. The signature spicy style beef ($14.80) does slightly better on the chilli stakes, teaming slices of cold roast beef under a Sichuan-spiced onion and cabbage stir fry with a topper of feathered shallots and fresh ginger. It wasn’t hot enough to really need one, but you can neck a Tsing Tao ($7.80) if you happen to disagree.
Special fried rice ($12.80) didn’t hold enough interest to be labeled special: I think I only spotted one frozen pea. Despite some effort at the front end of the space with a mural—presumably of the Shanghai girls-inspired namesake, Miss Lee—the dining room is a bit of a long and soulless eating barn with too much white light, worn booths and tables, and mismatched chairs. However with all three of their banquet menus available for fewer than twenty-five bucks per person, I suspect the high Google ratings for this venue judge it on affordability rather than the quality...
Read moreMISLEADING, ILLEGAL PRACTICES Bubble tea is advertised as $5 (reg) + 50c for toppings, so I ask to order a Thai Milk Tea with pearls. There’s a sign saying from mid Dec all prices advertised will increase by 10%, which I can accept and understand.
Once I get to the counter to pay, they tell me it’s $7.15. I asked why, given the advertised price + increase I’d expect it to be $6.05. They responded that that the menu prices are wrong.
Not only is this misleading and inaccurate price display, ACCC laws specify that if there are multiple prices then they must honour the lowest one or stop selling it: https://www.accc.gov.au/business/pricing/price-displays
I won’t be returning to this place, as the food itself is average but we enjoyed the good value of it (before price increase). Part of owning a business includes ensuring that it continues to be compliant with Australian laws. While I understand that it can get busy, the experience left a bad taste to the mouth esp when they refuse to comply with the law after being I formed...
