Visited in May 2024. The place looked good and was recommended to me by the host of the apartment where I stayed in Graz, so I entered the restaurant in good mood. The interiors look charming, the atmosphere is nice. I ordered tea (3.9€), apple strudel with one scoop of vanilla ice cream (7.3 + 1.5€). Tea was served first and was almost cold when the strudel arrived. The strudel was cold and didn't look like the strudels I had in other places. There was little filling, and looked like it's an apple puree. No apple pieces were found. Despite its unappetizing appearance, the strudel's tasted ok. The vanilla ice cream and whipped cream were a great and refreshing addition. Overall, 7/10. On the other hand, the service wasn't that good. I spent around 30 minutes in the restaurant and was asked "Is everything ok?" for 3 times by the same server. The restaurant was almost empty, I wasn't sitting there without ordering anything, and I couldn't understand if he was just trying to be extremely friendly, or I wasn't wanted in the restaurant. Anyway, after the third "Is everything ok?" I felt that I don't feel ok anymore, payed at the register, and left with not the best feelings. Might be just a misunderstanding, taking into account the language barrier, but almost ruined the whole experience. I don't think I'll want to come back, and I can't recommend this...

My recent visit to Altsteirische Schmankerlstube in Graz left me thoroughly disappointed. Despite having a reservation, my party and I were forced to wait for half an hour before we were finally given a table. The lack of organization and consideration for our time was frustrating, to say the least.

Once seated, the experience didn't improve. The restaurant's ambiance felt outdated and tired, lacking any charm or character. The menu promised authentic Austrian cuisine, but the dishes were bland and uninspiring. The waitstaff seemed overwhelmed and disinterested, providing minimal attention to our table.

When our food eventually arrived, it was evident that quality had taken a back seat. The schnitzel, a staple of Austrian cuisine, was disappointingly dry and lacked the crispy texture expected. The portions were on the smaller side, making the high prices even harder to justify. The sides were equally lackluster and failed to complement the main dishes.

Overall, Altsteirische Schmankerlstube failed to live up to its reputation. The poor service, unappetizing food, and overall lack of attention to detail make it a restaurant I cannot recommend. There are far better dining options in Graz that showcase the true essence of Austrian cuisine and...

Gier frisst Hirn, meiner...

While researching places to eat in Graz, this restaurant caught my attention. And I said "why not?" This was one of the best decisions and a highlight of our trip to Graz. The place is rustic, filled to the brim with that Austrian autentic charm. What's even best is that you get the full experience, as many locals are coming here to eat. The menu has a lot to offer: I do recommend the wiener schnitzel as it was very tasty and in plenty of quantity. We also tried some soups and we're also divine. Big props to everyone there. I also have to give a massive shout-out to our waiter, as there was only one guy serving all the tables. A few times, a lady from the kitchen was helping him, but the service overall was very quick. He was striving to get every order quick and also making sure the guests are having a good time. And we had the best time.

OMG - it was the worst experience ever. During our visit in this restaurant we were witnesses of horrible argue from kitchen between kitchen staff and woman (owner) whom hurries Chef with serving of meals. After 2 minutes woman owner started struggle the plates and injured the Chef. All of prepared meals was on the floor. All clients and restaurant staff was shocked. We also was shocked and we feared, because we didn’t know what’s happening. After the pacification of that woman from her family waiterss talked to new clients that meals will be not prepared. I can not accept lack of respect and injustice of this situation. After our payment stuff didn’t say anything and we went away with a very bad memories. I hope that this toxic person will be no connected with this place anymore.
