The Freiblick is a Tagescafé and part of Kastner & Öhler, the oldest and most prestigious department store (established in 1873) in the Old Town of Graz. From this rooftop café you get a whole new perspective on the Old Town of Graz, a UNESCO world heritage site. So the terrace is ideal to soak up the sun and to enjoy the view onto the many medieval roofs of the well-preserved Old Town of Graz. There is also a glass platform hanging over the Sackgasse to get a better look into the main street of Graz, the Herrengasse. So if you want to take a stunning photo of the Old Town of Graz with its rooftops and marvelous buildings, this place is ideal for this endeavor.
In this popular place we had a cappuccino, which was delicious and the staff is friendly and willing to help, even brought us extra pillows to sit on. This place is really a jewel in the rooftops of Graz and from here you have (one of) the best view onto the most famous landmark of Graz, the Clock Tower (Uhrturm) on the castle hill. The opening hours are aligned to the prestigious department store with tradition, Kastner & Öhler, meaning the Freiblick closes early at 7 pm weekdays and on Saturday at 6 pm. Sunday it is closed like the department store. But since this place is famous for its view the Freiblick is to be visited during the day, as 'Freiblick' in German can be translated as 'panorama view'.

Read moreDining above Graz' rooftops! Whenever I have visitors in Graz, I guide them here. The restaurant is located in the very heart of the old town of Graz with a perfect view of the castle hill as well as the marvelous city hall. I've been here several times for breakfast, which has been on point every single time. There is sth. on the menu for every taste: whether you want pancakes, poached eggs, muesli, French toast or other culinary combinations. Besides the great taste and truly good pricing, I love that they use fresh and mainly regional products. Also very recommendable is the coffee - and I say that as a coffee lover. But if you are more in the mood for champagne or a "Spritz" - I'm sure you'll find some tasty options too. Hot tip: if you would like to visit this place on the weekend, make a reservation well ahead of time, especially if you would like to sit on the beautiful terrace. Last but not least I enjoy it very much that the service treats every customer like a queen/king. I emphasize this because not only the "normal people" meet at Freiblick, but also the "Upper classes". You just feel comfortable and welcome here, no matter what you look like. In conclusion: a visit here is a big fat...
Read moreThe Freiblick Café Lounge is on the 6th floor of the Kastner & Öhler Department store in city center Graz. We walked through the store to reach the escalators to ride up to this roof top café with indoor and outdoor seating, so we could see how elegant the store is. There is a beautiful view of old town Graz, including the clock tower. The menu was in German, so we asked the waiter to recommend something, and we had a dish the waiter described as like Beef Stroganoff. Well not quite, but it was tasty. It was also the daily special. Since the sun was bright and it was a warm day, we opted to eat inside. We choose a low table and some comfy overstuffed chairs; the other interior choice were high bar style tables, or the counter. A wheel chair person might opt to eat outside. Nice clean restrooms adjacent to the café. Breakfast is served from 09:30 to 16:00. Snacks are available from 09:30 - 18:00 In the evening, the location can be rented for...
