La Tavernetta — Restaurant in Graz

Average food and terrible service. The worst service I've had in a very long time. We picked the restaurant because it had good reviews in google.

It started okay, we got our drinks and starters fast. After we were done with the starters, there were no waiters around and we waited for at least 25 minutes with empty plates on our table and no waiters around. Several tables around us were also looking for service and they had to get up to get it. A lady next to us waited for at least 15 minutes with a dirty table until she got service. I had to remind the waiter we had ordered pizzas, he didn't even know how many pizzas were missing. The restaurant wasn't even full. We then had to wait for at least 25 more minutes for our pizzas. There was no apology for the delay, and the waiter even threw one pizza on the table and the pizza slid onto the table with no reaction from the waiter.

After we ate, I tried to call the waiter several times until I had to raise my voice to get service. I asked to have the rest of our food to go and again, we had to wait. We then had to get up to ask to pay and to get a box for the rest of the pizza. The waiter just gave us a box, didn't even help us pack the pizza, charged us for the food and left.

I recently spent an evening at La Tavernetta, tucked away in Graz’s Old Town near Südtirolerplatz. The charming outdoor terrace, complete with umbrella-shaded tables and a backdrop of a baroque church, instantly transported me to an Italian piazza setting.

Inside, the space feels authentically Italian—warm lighting, rustic touches, and cozy seating that makes it feel more trattoria than tourist trap.

I began with a mixed seafood appetizer, followed by a Risotto Asparagi—creamy and fresh with tender asparagus. The Grigliata Mista di Pesce brought a generous platter of grilled sea bass, calamari, and seasonal vegetables, each component highlighting its natural flavors. Abbiamo passato una piacevole serata in compagnia di amici. Tavoli all'aperto , puliti, sufficientemente larghi e sedie comode. Apparecchiatura carina, con tovaglietta e posate portate personalmente dal cameriere, cosa non scontata visto che siamo in Austria. Bagno pulitissimo, provvisto di tutto, ci tengo a scriverlo perché spesso è un "dettaglio" ahimè trascurato. Menù con scelta di primi e secondi di pesce e pizzeria, più qualche antipasto con tagliere di salumi/formaggi. Io ho preso la pizza, altri hanno ordinato degli spaghetti alle vongole. Per la pizza: ottima, impasto croccante, ingredienti di qualità (ad esempio fiordilatte e non "pizzakäse!"), curata e cotta al punto giusto. Dimensioni generose. Cosa significa curata? Significa ad esempio che il pizzaiolo si è preso la premura di grigliare le verdure PRIMA di buttarle sulla pizza e non di lanciare tutto insieme nel forno senza riguardo. Significa dosare gli ingredienti al punto giusto, in modo da esaltarsi tutti. Significa la fogliolina di basilico fresco. Sembra una stupidaggine, in realtà denota passione per il proprio lavoro.Gli spaghetti alle vongole avevano un buon profumo, non ho però assaggiato, ma mi fido di chi dice essere buoni. I dolci: un tiramisù fatto in casa, invitante così tanto che mi sono ripromessa una volta partorito di tornare a mangiarlo (purtroppo conteneva rum). Ho optato per una panna cotta, che mi è stata servita freschissima e ben guarnita, non con topping di scarsa qualità, ma anche questa curata. I camerieri molto gentili, desidero sinceramente ringraziare per la pazienza, purtroppo causa della gravidanza ho dovuto spesso chiedere informazioni. Unico appunto: quando ho chiesto gli ingredienti sull'ortolana avrei preferito ricevere una risposta più precisa, anziché "è fatta come c'è scritto" perché per esempio mi è stata servita con la rucola e sul menù era riportato solo "verdure grigliate" - io essendo incinta evito verdure crude. Ho comunque apprezzato la pazienza e la cortesia, sicuramente torneremo, per ora il miglior ristorante a Graz nel suo genere.
