Augustiner Bräu Mülln is an absolute must-visit, when in Salzburg. Even if you’re not a beer lover, the vibe of this place will win you over. It’s not a regular restaurant, but a traditional beer hall that offers a lively, authentic experience. The venue is cash-only, so if have cards you’ll need to make a quick trip to the ATM just outside the main gate. Beer: The beer is served in ceramic mugs, a unique and classic touch. You can choose from two sizes, with the larger mug priced at €7. It’s a cool experience to drink from a ceramic mug instead of the usual glass. Venue: The place is divided into several halls, each offering a different vibe. You can take a check out all the halls and choose the one that best suits your mood, whether you’re looking for a relaxed setting with couples or a more vibrant crowd. In the summer months, the outdoor garden is also open, providing a lovely option for enjoying your drink al fresco. Food: You will find everything from crispy snacks to schnitzels. However, the focus here is definitely on the beer, not the food. While the food is decent, it’s the beer experience that takes center stage. The brand also operates a restaurant nearby, though it was closed during our visit. Overall, Augustiner Bräu Mülln is a quintessential part of Salzburg’s beer culture. Whether you’re a beer enthusiast or just looking to soak up the local atmosphere, this place is definitely worth a visit.

This is a unique place and for me more about the experience than anything. It feels a bit intimidating because its geared up for locals, but that's why it's fun to experience. I was on my own but felt totally safe and once I worked out the system, had fun. It's an absolutely massive place, but can still be tricky to get a seat at a busy time. As far as I could tell it was a grab a gap system. There are a range of food stalls in the entry way serving food that goes with beer. Bread, sausages, schnitzels etc. Not badly priced and decent quality The beer is brewed on site (historically by monks) and comes in two size steins. Yoi grab your own tankard, pay and then go get filled up, sit back and enjoy. If you're looking to be waited on with a selection of craft beers, this is not for you, but if you like to try something very specific to Salzburg and just roll with what happens then I think this would be for you. I imagine in good weather the garden is a very fun time.

Rude rude rude. I ordered some extra food at the end "to-go" as it was really good and wanted some more back to my hotel, and the guy didn't understand so I clarified again saying "takeout" and he yelled at me "it's takeaway" and gave me ugly goofy face. I mean dude listen both are right and I am so sorry you had to yell at customer for showing off your short knowledge. I was just trying my best to communicate with your broken English. After ate up the rudeness, then he asked me to pay again after I already paid for the food because he probably was out of mind by being upset himself. When I said "I already paid", he were like "oh then sorry" with rude attitude returning my change back which I didn't even want to touch. Didn't bother touch and stay longer in the building, yuck. Got out, dumped the pork and left. The beer was really good though. 맥주 정말 너무 제 스타일 맛잇었는데. 진짜 종업원 싸가지에 구역질이 나네요.

SEE TOURIST GUIDE BELOW

Absolutely fantastic place to visit. It's a non-touristy place to enjoy beer in the company of locals with a fantastic atmosphere. This is a lively place for younger and older generations (don't be surprised if you see 16-year-olds here, it's legal for them to drink wine and beer —but not spirits— in Austria).

Guide for tourists:

Important: This location is cash only throughout. Don't worry if you forget though, there is an ATM located outside the building next door (HYPO Salzburg).

  1. Enter by the stairs outside (next to the larger car park), and locate the two cashier booths by the mug-rinsing fountain.

  2. Pay for either half a litre or a full litre of beer, keep your receipt and take the size of mug you've chosen from the wooden shelving on the other side of the room. There is no choice of beer, only the one they have at the time. You can also purchase soft drinks. Beer mugs are not refillable, it's a one-time purchase, but if you want another, buy another beer and rinse out your mug at the fountain.

  3. Take your mug to the drink serving station located inbetween the two cashier booths and present your receipt. The server will fill your mug with beer. Here is also where you collect any other drinks you've purchased, such as soft drinks.

  4. Choose from 5 beer halls or the outdoor beer garden to sit down in. No need to ask to be seated. Some beer halls are very traditional, others are a bit more modern.

  5. Enjoy your beer! If you're hungry, from 19:00 there's a hallway with independent food establishments that begin to shut down at around 21:00-22:00. You can find food such as schnitzel, baked goods, cheese platters, leberkäse (a kind of luncheon meat loaf) and more. You can grab a tray and purchase food from different stands.

Hope you enjoy this wonderfully traditional and atmospheric...

Ok, so this was a fantastic place to visit but you’ll need to understand what to do before going.

Firstly, this place is CASH ONLY. Secondly, this place is completely self serve.

It is a giant ‘university’ sort of place. We were a little confused at first how to access the place because it’s so vast and doesn’t look like it has a particular entrance. Look for the car park you’ll see some stairs from there.

There is a huge outdoor section which just be fantastic during the summer. You keep going up the stairs into the halls.

So here’s what to do: Grab a mug from the shelves. There are different sizes depending on your preference. Go to the little fountain and wash your mug out Join the queue at the little kiosk and choose your drink of choice. There are 2 beers. One is stronger than the other. Pay €7 for a large mug. Once you’ve been given your receipt, take your ticket to the people at the beer barrels and they will fill it up straight out of the barrel. With your drink in hand, have a walk round the various food stalls. Grab one of the many trays that are on the counter tops and order food from as many stalls as you like. Most of the meals are €12-18. Fresh cooked crisps are €8 and radishes are €3.50 Make your way into one of the many ‘halls’ which are much like a school dining hall. You just pick a seat at a table and sit down. It’s likely going to be busy, so keep walking through different halls until you find seating. Enjoy the relaxed, friendly buzz with good beer...
