We came here for lunch during our visit to Salzburg, mainly because they offer 1/2 grilled chicken — a must-try in the city. On arrival, we were warmly greeted (probably by the owner) and seated under a tree in the Biergarten. Unfortunately, only one chicken was left, so my friend ordered the Ofenfrisches Bauernbratl, their Saturday special. I later ordered the same, so my plate came afterward.
When my food arrived, I immediately noticed that both the meat and sauce were extremely salty. I tried a few bites but couldn’t continue. My friend nearly finished hers but agreed it was too salty, though she didn’t complain, thinking it might just be European taste. I politely asked the waiter if the dish was meant to be so salty, and he kindly offered to let me choose another meal, so I ordered the Wiener Backhendl instead.
While waiting, the older man (again, likely the owner) suddenly approached and rather rudely told me he had tasted the returned food himself and found it fine, pointing out that my friend had eaten most of hers. He lingered nearby for a while after, which felt uncomfortable. I found this response unprofessional — a simple “Sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy it, I hope you like the new dish” would have been enough.
The food itself is tasty and the prices reasonable, but the attitude we experienced left a poor impression. Sadly, I wouldn’t return despite...
Read moreWe visited here for an early lunch on a Saturday in June. We ordered beer, the Goulash and a Wiener Schnitzel. Both food and the beer were really delicious. The food was hot and fresh and promptly served. The wait staff were friendly and efficient. The terrace was quite quiet, but as there were a couple of people smoking, we chose a table far away in the corner. We didn't ask, but it seemed that all the tables had ashtrays and there was therefore no 'No Smoking' area. Even with only a slight breeze, we were bothered by the smoke. By the time we left, the terrace was almost full, so I suggest you get there early, or reserve a table. The tables and chairs are pretty functional (think Bierkeller more than luxury restaurant); a few cushions are scattered around to help with comfort. Overall, a great lunch and recommended. We will...
Read moreMany are confusing this location with the large Augustine’s Braugasthof down the road. This is garden like place behind a building with the most RACIST old man host I have ever met. He took one look at me and my 2 yr old son (we are Hispanic) and he said the kitchen is not serving, as a waiter walked past with food. He said go down the road to the other Augustine. They’ll serve you. I thought it was odd but brushed it off. We returned the next day, he took a look at us and said no tables are available (which there were plenty) and he said there is no waitlist because no one ever cancels. Go down the road to the other Augustine. Even if the food was Michelin rated good, I hope you don’t support an establishment who serves only those that...
