BLOCK HOUSE Am Naschmarkt — Restaurant in Vienna

We have celebrated many occasions at this restaurant and always loved it. It is next door to us and especially since having a little one has been truly convenient also because normally they are amazing with kids! For our son’s second birthday we decided to go there with the grandparents and reserved a table outside well in advance clarifying what we’re celebrating. When we arrived a very grumpy waitress welcomed us and when we asked for our table outside she said it is better to sit inside as it will rain soon. We said we still prefer to sit outside since rain was scheduled for later and the whole point of not getting the child nervous was not sitting inside. Talk about making anyone nervous… we waited for the food for 1 hour given that the restaurant was empty! In one of our son’s numerous trips running around inside we noticed a table of 6 that definitely came quite some time after us having their meal while we were still waiting! It was definitely an intentional move to make us regret sitting outside as half way through our meal - it started raining big time. We finished our meal - some of us with some wet parts - and went inside for the little one to finish and to finish our drinks and got the nastiest “I told you so“ looks from the waitress that ‚welcomed‘ us… very unprofessional and completely disappointing. This time even the food was not worth it as half of it was cold. It was definitely our last visit even after years of visiting. With this attitude I don’t expect they will be around much...

I have been going to this restaurant chain for over 20 years. In Germany, Spain and Austria. Here specifically the Service is abysmal, except for one waiter named Adrian. Ask for him if you reserve there, he takes care of you amazingly. With him, the food was exceptional, the service magnificent and the atmosphere was great to be in. Most other waiters, especially the "Head-Waitress" in blue clothes, does not know what service means and if you don't "look important" she will treat you badly, as in, if something is wrong with your order, it is your fault. One waitress didn't even wait until we were finished eating, before trying to take the plates in front of us. When she got a bad tip for that, she did not even look at us, slammed the bill down and did not say goodbye, even when I said it to her first. All in all, it depends on your waiter. If you want to be safe, don't go to Kaja. She is the worst, no service knowledge at all,...

Hate to leave a bad review, but this was a poor steak experience in Vienna. The staff was kind, and the establishment was clean and nice, but the food was simply sub-par. The sirloins were so tough that it took much effort to cut and chew them, and were absent of flavor. The amount of additional seasoning that was required for any semblance of flavor was unbearable. As a side note: (this may be due to our internationality) but a steak cooked "medium rare" here was the US equivalent of "blue" and temperature wise was literally cold in the center. The baked potato was decent as potatoes come and was slathered in a homemade sour cream, so there's not much to complain about there.
