Given Vienna and Austria’s position as a landlocked country, I was surprised during my time in the city to find fresh seafood on almost every menu. As such, upon hearing great reviews of Umarfisch and seeing it listed on the Michelin guide, my family decided to try it out for dinner. When we arrived the restaurant was packed, with a single table inside available. The menu includes a wide array of fresh seafood and an array of global preparations. We opted for a dozen oysters, a scallop carpaccio, fried calamari, salt baked seabass and shrimps in a spicy tomato sauce. Umarfisch has a great atmosphere, clean and inviting, without feeling overly fancy. Oysters, first to arrive and hailing from Normandy were good, with a clean yet briny flavour. An order of scallop carpaccio was another highlight, with incredibly fresh scallops that paired well with the nuttiness and acidity from a rocket salad. Calamari were good - crispy yet tender and to this point we were very happy with our meal. The only blemish that evening were the shrimps - less impressive in quality than the other seafood and in my opinion, not well paired with a spicy tomato sauce. Fortunately the salt baked seabass was the complete opposite, featuring incredibly fresh seabass cooked to perfection. The fish, only requiring a squeeze of lemon for a delicious bite, would be a reason to return on its own. Having sensed the Turkish influence on the restaurant given the name and presence of Turkish coffee on the menu we opted for the recommended dessert, featuring an ashta middle on a pistachio base and a raspberry coulis. The resulting mix was very tasty - creamy, nutty and fresh all in a single mouthful. Overall, if I was in the mood for seafood in Vienna, I certainly wouldn't mind revisiting Umarfisch.

We enjoyed a lovely late lunch at Umarfisch and highly recommend this restaurant. Everything was delicious and fresh. We shared oysters to start and for main course the whole sole fillet was cooked to perfection and scallops with truffle risotto were incredible. There were lots of options on the menu and I had a hard time making a decision. This restaurant is definitely worth a return visit to try some of the other offerings (ceviche!) We didn’t make it to dessert as we were full from the very generous servings and bread to start. They have their own very compact restrooms so you don’t have to go searching for a public loo at the end of your meal. Great service! We didn’t catch the waiters names but both guys who served us were excellent.

Umar Fisch is a great place to get fresh fish (by Vienna standards) at a moderately high price but with perfect execution; atmosphere is the only lacking part as its located in a busy open market without air-condition. We had grilled octopus, which was soft and not dry at all (👌) and mussels. Both of them were packed with flavour and priced adequately. 🌟 It's also possible to browse their fresh fish selection at their fish store and have it prepared for you in the restaurant. ❗ The only negative point I can give about the food is the extreme saltiness of the olives served with the dishes.

In short - gross place, staff saw shattered glass land on me as they broke multiple pieces of glassware then was pushy, rude, and unapologetic.

Well, that's the grossest "meal" I've had in a long time. Just after they sat us I heard a sound next to me, and looked at it to find flying glass shards from a staff member having broken a glass on a counter. Thankfully none landed in my eyes, even though glass landed on me. A member of the staff watched me pick glass off my arm and came over to take it. Not wanting to risk eating glass that might fall off my hair or clothing during the meal I refrained from ordering except for some water (but didn't want to spoil the party for my companions so didn't leave immediately). When my companions food arrived the staff decided that a plate must be mine and my phone was in the way. Even though I was holding it down to the table they tried to grab it and pry it from my hands and out of their way - for food I hadn't ordered. After the meal I held both the fork and knife down under my arms so they wouldn't be bussed without my being able to cross them in great displeasure. In spite of this they grabbed the utensils OUT from under me. When I retrieved another pair from another table I received a rude gesture from another member of the staff. After leaving I got to shake any remaining glass out of my hair and off my clothes (which required partially undressing). By the way, it wasn't just one piece of glassware, it was two (and a third dropped but didn't end up shattering). The glass shower was in spite of a new splashguard being added that isn't in the photos currently posted for the place. Just a gross place and...

(한글리뷰 아래) We ordered 3 dishes. The server spoke very little english so i pointed on the menu what I wanted. One entre, one fish dish (for one) and an extra side. They put out for us 2 servings instead of one of the fish and because we didn’t know, they just charged us for the two and said “it’s too bad”. All the single portions in Austria at the other restaurants we ate were big so we didn’t know the fish that was brought out was for 2 portions instead of the one we ordered. Make sure they know what you are ordering or they will over charge you and say it was a “miscommunication” I can’t believe this but recommend that you ask for the bill before you start eating. Otherwise they can put out some bigger portion and over charge you for and just say whatever. The fish was well cooked but I will never return to this place cause of the bad attitude and “bad communication” despite me pointing to the exact items on the menu TWICE for the waiter.
