WEIN & CO Wien Naschmarkt – Weinbar & Shop — Restaurant in Vienna

The Wein & Co shop and bar at Naschmarkt follows the same concept as other stores of the Wein & Co chain. In addition, there's a great location next to the famous food market and a fantastic team. Christian, Michael and everyone else who has been serving us are highly knowledgeable, service-minded, and willing to go the extra mile - always with a smile, a friendly face and a great attitude that makes you feel like a welcome guest.

We love the tastings and the recommendations, the large selection, and of course the fact that the store is also open in the evenings and on Sundays.

One example for the fantastic service: We bought wine, forgot the invoice and asked for a copy (given this is Vienna, our hopes to actually get a receipt were in the single digit percentage - most likely, a store would answer with "sorry, but the computer says no"). Fifteen minutes after having sent the request by mail we had an answer in our inbox, complete with a copy of the invoice and warm regards. WOW!

LOOK OUT FOR HIDDEN CHARGES!!! This place is run by scammers. A. We ordered 3 glasses of tap water but came only one, and they charged us €1.50 for the tap water. I've visited numerous countries around the world and haven't encountered any one eatery that charges for tap water. B. Besides the tap water, when I checked the bill (67-ish euro) I saw another €6.10 charge, and they explained it was tax. Again, I stayed in Europe for quite some time during student times but had never seen any one eatery that mixes the tax (a standalone charge and shown with a name as "menu1") with other items on the bill.

BAD FOOD The meat on the grillboard was very dry and hard. Schnitzel and other food were so-so. We ordered 0.5L Radler which cost €5-ish and were surprised to see it was bottled instead of from tap.

RUDE STAFF No service at all. And food portion seemed to differ for locals and tourists.

In conclusion, this is the worst eatery ever. I'll definitely check online reviews before I enter a random eatery I come across...

Only 1 star thanks to the waitress in a bad mood who had a tantrum like a two year old when we asked if we could sit on one of the empty tables with a "reserve" sign on them. Wein & Co is one of my favourite places in Vienna that I would gladly choose over other bars and restaurants. Not tonight, however, and not the place near Naschmarkt. We wanted to have dinner there tonight and started looking for a table. We first sat in the section in the middle, which is designated for non-smokers but only on "paper" as in practice the swinging glass door does not provide any protection against the smoke from the smoking section. We then tried to move to the other non-smoking section at the front of the restaurant where the serving waitress with exuberant hair was livid and in such a bad mood that she could hardly talk. We left immediately, of course. No drama, it was not worth spoiling our evening and mood over a person who did not seem to know what she was supposed to do there. Perhaps her manager could clarify her job...
