We were very pleased on the begining of our evening because the ambient is very nice and we like fancy restaurants. The reason why I give them just one star is our disappointment on the end. We are good guests and ready to pay for a good quality but we don't like being ripped off! We ordered a nice food with a glass of wine and in a mean time we got a starter which we didn't order. I travel a lot and I visited many restaurants in many countries where the guests are being served something like that but it's always free of charge. Vienna is the only city where they ripped us off in a very cunning and a charming way. In the end the waitress asked if we would like to have a dessert, but we were full and said that we don't need it. Instead, she offered us to degustate a little bit of house's dessert wine and we said yes! When we got the invoice, we realised that we were charged for all those extra stuff which we didn't really need, nor ordered! We politely paid and tipped the waitress. I would give them more stars but the worst part is yet to come! After we left, my friend said that her steak was tasteless and she even got a stomach pain and started to feel sick. I was very dissappointed to hear it and it's such a shame that they were not able to serve her a steak made of fresh meat but instead she got steak made of old meat which made her feel sick. Vienna is the only city I visited where guests are being so cunningly ripped off, plus served such a bad...
Read moreWe had a group booking for about 10 people but ended up being 15. Waited around half an hour to order drinks, apparently the staff had to go print menus, and despite the restaurant being empty aside from us and 2-3 other tables, service was shockingly slow. There were very few vegan/gluten free options, and allergens listed on the menu were not correct. E.g. Egg Benjamin is listed without an A for gluten but does contain gluten. Me and 2 others ordered the Egg Benjamin but the egg whites were completely raw. We were then told that it's a "Stundenei" but it says poached on the menu, so our expectations were different. I asked if we could get our eggs cooked so that the white is at least firm to which our disgruntled waitress eventually agreed. One guest got 2 eggs, me and another only 1 - on top of that the eggs were fried, and there was much less zucchini and ham. The gluten free bread - great that they have but should be on the menu - came after we had finished eating. Having worked in commercial kitchens for 5+ years, I find it hard to believe that the kitchen can't cope with a table of 15. The only friendly service we experienced was from the one male waiter. I don't understand how this place has such high reviews - perhaps our experience was just bad luck. But to then be charged €15 for one fried egg with a few pieces of zucchini, some hollandaise and a few thin streaks of ham is daylight robbery, even for Vienna's 1st district. 15 potential...
Read moreThe food is good and when not busy (or better - mostly empty, as it was during out lunch time). HOWEVER, there is a scam going on in this place and it is NOT OK. The small menu features dishes as well as appetizers (e.g., "fancy" bread and butter) on the same page. Notably, if you order a sample of the latter, you will be (unannounced) charged for each person in the group. And this does not mean you get the portion equivalent to each person. For instance, you order bread and butter and you get... a smal roll cut into 4-5 pieces of bread and a small chunk of mediocre butter. The bread comes from a good place and is indeed quite good, so I can see the price (3+ Euro) being justified for the order. Here is where the scam comes in: Say you have 4 people at the table. You will still get this ONE ROLL + a small piece of butter. Its fine - its just a tiny appetizer. However, when you get the bill, EACH PERSON ends up being charged separately. At the end, you end up paying 3 euro for 1-2 really small slices of a roll. Or put it differently, with 3-4 people you end up with perhaps one of thst most expecive rolls in Austria! Worse, at no point would the waiter tell you anything about these "rules," nor does it say anything about it on the menu, nor would they say anything except for "but each of you 'had it'." And that's very sad, as it sours the whole experience (decour, music, and food is...
