ef16 Restaurant Weinbar — Restaurant in Vienna

Me and my girlfriend came to ef16 to celebrate her birthday while in Vienna. Naturally I had done my search for somewhere special and opted to come here, and what a great option that was!

First, the service was very friendly and professional without being intrusive. We were greeted as friends or locals and not as tourists as you often are around the city centre.

All staff was knowledgeable and ready to give advice on the menu and specially on the wine choice (almost all, if not all, from Austrian vineyards and winemakers - which says a lot about the place and was a big plus for us)

Food was delicious. The entrees/starters were generous, original and flavoursome; we're happy we also shared a chestnut soup which was incredible; for main we had a local sweet water fish [forgot the name] and the duck breast [which seems to be a popular choice here] and they were both wonderfully prepared! I'm happy I went with the duck and I'd advise you to do so rather than the Schnitzel (which I'm sure it's wonderful but that you can find anywhere else in town) -- all his accompanied by a semi-dry and medium sweet Austrian white wine which was patiently recommended to us after a couple other wine tastes.

Being a birthday celebration I had asked at the time of booking (yes, I advice you to book a table asap) for something special for my girlfriend and the best was, of course, saved for last - after we were done with the mains a clebratory gingerbread soufflé arrived to the table which was both unexpected and delicious!

The service was not rushed at all (we were given time between dishes to enjoy ourselves rather than rushing us to free the table as it often happens in other places) and we both found it to be cosy and tasteful. The sort of place where you can find people suited up for the Opera or locals catching up over a glass of wine and beautifully presented modern takes on traditional dishes.

We recommend this place as a MUST GO if you're in Vienna to celebrate something special and even if you're not we found the prices to be adequate to the quality and experience of the dinner.

Overall it was a perfect night and we hope to be back soon. We give it 10 out of 10 and a special thanks to the staff [and the owner who I believe tended to us] who helped making this an experience...

My wife selected the restaurant based on reviews and I made the reservation for right at their opening time so that we could make it to the Opera. When we arrived, we discovered that I had made the reservations for the next week and they had a very full reservation list. However, he looked and figured out that he could work us in if we could be sure to be done by 7:30 - which was perfect as that was the starting time for the Opera. The waiter informed use that he would help us manage the time to make sure we got there on time. From start to finish the wine, the food and the service were spectacular! We started with a the Pear de Blanc aperitif, then my wife had the asparagus soup and I had the fried octopus, for the main course, she had the duck with orange gnocchi, and I had the filet. The waiter recommended a Pinot noir for the duck and a Zweigelt for the filet. Everything was just perfect. We finished with creme brulee and the strawberry desserts. Again, everything was perfect. Throughout, the waiter and maitre d were helpful and pleasant. When they found out we were celebrating our 25th anniversary, they brought us a wish balloon and took a picture for us.
