Spent 2-3 hours after a business trip here with my colleague, basically killing some time before going to the airport. First thing after sitting down the waiter came over and asked us for our drink order, we asked if they did flat whites and was told “yes”. So we ordered two flat whites. We were asked if we wanted water with it “yes tap please”, as anyone normally would. We were bought our coffees which were definitely not flat whites - they were two double shots of espresso and a tiny jug of milk? What are we supposed to do with that? Also they bought us two bottles of water (which they charged us for). Anyway let it slide… I later ordered a club sandwich… it was disgusting, lettuce was hot mush inside the sandwich as it was put in BEFORE going in the toastie maker…. And almost no chicken and… what bacon?
When the waiter came he said it was cash only, we said we only have card (it’s 2023 how are they running a large cafe opposite a main train station in a European capital city and only taking cash?!?). He told us our waiter would have told us when we sat down… no she didn’t and he also said there were signs up stating this… again no there weren’t. We asked him to show us these signs, we walked around the cafe and low and behold there was one sign at the back entrance to the cafe on the shopping centre side saying ‘cash only’, but nothing on the main entrance side where 90% of footfall comes from.
The waiter got stroppy with us, he said it was ridiculous that he was having this conversation with us. Well it’s ridiculous you lied to us about the coffee we would get, charged for water we did not want, serve an absolutely rank selection of ‘food’ and lie about pre-warning people in the 21st century that you can’t use card.
They also don’t have their own toilet. The only positive the interior looks modern and new. But yeah everything they serve is below par, overpriced, charged additionally and I would speculate as to what they’re really doing by only taking cash and getting so irate about it.
Wish I had checked the rating on google maps before going in… there’s a reason...

Today, I visited Daylounge at Wien Mitte with 3 friends, and unfortunately, our experience was nothing short of disappointing. I feel compelled to share my negative encounter to warn potential customers about the deceptive practices we encountered.
Upon ordering 4 espressos, we were offered water to accompany our drinks, a common practice in many Viennese coffee houses (I am living in Vienna for 3 years now and I can say it is very common). However, our expectations were shattered when the waiter brought us 4 water bottles made of glass (0.33L). Confused and unsatisfied with this unexpected deviation, we politely requested regular glasses of water to accompany our coffees. The waiter initially insisted that this was what we had asked for, creating unnecessary tension. After a brief argument, he agreed to bring three of them back, and we accepted to pay one of them.
To add insult to injury, when the bill arrived, we were charged a total of 17.40€ for the four espressos and water. We paid and left. Perplexed, I checked the menu prices again, which clearly indicated that an espresso costs 3.20€ and water 3.10€. So, for a total of 15.90€. The discrepancy in the bill suggests either a mistake, a hidden cost or an attempt to overcharge unsuspecting customers.
This experience left us feeling deceived and disrespected, as if Daylounge intentionally misled us. The lack of transparency left a sour taste in our mouths, overshadowing any enjoyment we might have derived from our visit.
In conclusion, I strongly advise potential visitors to exercise caution when considering Daylounge. I hope that by sharing this review, others can make informed decisions about where to spend their time and money in Vienna, and the Daylounge owner to reconsider the...
Read moreDo not go to this place, I would give them less than 1 star if I could. They try to scam you in multiple ways: First they offer water together with your coffee, as it is customary to serve for free in Vienna (if you ask if it's bottled they say "just water"). We explicitly asked for tap water, just in case. However they tried to serve us a 3€ small bottle of water for each of us, which we sent back and then got a glass of tap water, for 50 cts each (they didn't specify that until we saw it in the bill). Then, they try to refuse giving you the bill before you pay. We had to ask multiple times and we refused to pay until we saw an explanation of the price they were asking us to pay. Because it didn't add up. When we got the bill, we saw they had added "service cost" for 2€, twice (we were 3 people occupying 2 small tables). When we asked they just said it is "normal for everyone". So they just included the tip themselves and were trying to hide it from us.
btw, the food wasn't super good either so it's not...
