Bed and pillow were ok. Check-in was fast but they don't give you an info packet, I think they did mention about breakfast for Euros 21. I guess vegetables are expensive in Austria because on the buffet mostly with deli meats and cheese , there was only peppers offered with the scrambled eggs and small frankfurters. I liked the option of organic juices and some of the pastries. Nothing to write home about! So I never went back. On some websites, it states that they offered "free breakfast and free shuttle" but it isn't not true. On other websites, they even state full service spa, which actually is only a sauna you need to warn them 20 mn prior using. A hair salon is also listed and golf, bicycling. No bellman either. Taxi left me with my big suitcases in the street about 100 m from reception. "free mini-bar" with 2 beers, 2 cokes, 2 water, 2 OJ and a Manner wafer. Small bathroom with practically no counter space and only mediocre small towel for body, another smaller and then hand towel. No luxury towels! Sometimes housekeepers didn't even replenish and I had to go back to desk because she was alone and couldn't deliver. Ditto for tissue box and for leaky water kettle which was flooding the tray. I checked out early for my 9 a.m. departure, my sister checked out later and was harassed by the clerk about a E50.00 charge for housekeeping for "cleaning beyond the norm". Not bad enough she had her handicap to deal with, (on crutches, with wheelchair with 2 suitcases) , a slope in the street not up to par/Norms (too steep) of an angle) and no bellcart. Number 1, we stayed 11 days and I didn't request daily cleaning and had the do not disturb sign up but it ended up on the floor. My bill was settled months in advance and she had the guts to say she tried to get hold of me to notify me of that charge. The trash can was small and even if I put the bottled waters aside because they were consigned, there was not enough room. Yes, I did stain the sheet at one point pouring some beverage powder in a bottle, but I could have cleaned later, because we had several day trips planned and had to meet at 7:15 am. Luckily, I booked those trips before I left home, because their business center was closed and computer broken for at least a year. When I asked for assistance, they were busy checking-in or checking out people and I wasted lots of time, because sometimes they didn't even have the info available. Sometimes I couldn't even know a day in advance if museums were open due to the holidays, I was told to come back and check same day? At any rate, just don't see what that" cleaning beyond the norms" consists of. My sister went ahead and paid and was told to complain later. I try to resolve amicably but to no avail. I stayed in many hotel chains, Ritz, Marriott, Intercontinental I guess more upscale hotels and this is unheard of and can't recommend this hotel. I payed $200/night with Amex travel agency and they are supposed to get the best price but a few weeks ago, Mercure was offering rooms at same hotel for $100. Which left even a more bitter taste in my mouth. That will teach me for booking a midscale...
Read moreThe Hotel rooms were adequate but service was less than we expected. We arrived to the hotel on the 24th December at 1:30 PM and we were told that we can leave our bags and come back at 3:00 PM when Check-in. As it was Christmas Eve, we enquired whether there is a restaurant in the Hotel and we were informed that there is. Upon our return at 4;00 PM, we were told that the restaurant is full and that we can go to Vappiano across the road for dinner before 6:30 as they will also close then. Sadly, we had no Christmas dinner. While the rooms were serviced everyday, On the second last day, there was no soap in the shower and unfortunately that was not replenished. Also, on the same day, when we went to breakfast and we were treated with the most disrespect by a waitress called “Stella’ who got angry for requesting her to clear the table and slammed the coffee cup in front of me. I got upset and went to the front asking for the manager, the waitress went after me and said “by the way, my name is Stella” and turned around and left. The restaurant manger was not available and we spoke with the reception manger who was so lovely and tried to compensate our negative experience by offering us a bottle of wine or so. We refused and requested an apology from Stella. Unfortunately, we received only an apology from the manager despite she did not do anything wrong. After reading the high rated comments, I was even more perplexed as they are talking about TV with only German/Austrian channels- Our TV did not work at all and the bathroom sink was so slow in disbursing water. I travel a lot and that is definitely not what to expect from Mercure or any Accor Hotel. Though the reception manager was understanding and attempted to compensate us with a bottle of wine, our overall experience was marred by the lack of an apology from the staff member at fault, left a sour taste and significantly tainted our perception of the hotel's service and its...
Read moreMy stay at Mercure Grand Hotel Biedermeier Wien was a mixed bag, with both positive and disappointing aspects. The hotel rooms were satisfactory, providing a comfortable stay and rooms were serviced everyday. However, the service fell short of expectations. Upon our arrival on December 24th at 1:30 PM, we were informed that check-in would be at 3:00 PM, and despite our inquiry about the hotel restaurant, we were later told it was full upon our return at 4:00 PM, leaving us without a Christmas Eve dinner. While the rooms were generally serviced daily, there was a lapse on the second-to-last day when there was no soap in the shower, and it was not replenished. Additionally, the TV in our room didn't work at all, and the bathroom sink had slow water disbursement. The most disappointing incident occurred during breakfast on the second-to-last day, where we experienced outright disrespect from the waitress, Stella. She not only slammed a coffee cup at me but also displayed a dismissive attitude. When my upset wife sought the manager's intervention going to the entry of the restaurant, Stella followed my wife and stood in front of her and said “By the way, my name is Stella” and then left the scene. To our dismay, the restaurant manager was unavailable, and we received an apology from the hotel manager, who wasn't involved in the incident. Despite the reception manager's attempt to compensate with a bottle of wine that we declined as the only request was the apology from Stella but the lack of a genuine (or any) apology from Stella left a sour taste. This unfortunate encounter significantly tainted our perception of the hotel's service and ruined our whole day. In conclusion, while the accommodations met basic standards, the unprofessional behaviour of a staff member marred our stay, leaving us disappointed and questioning the overall quality of service at Mercure Grand Hotel Biedermeier...
