Yesterday after my yoga class my plan was to find a good brunch place and I did cause I ended up at Joseph Bröt. Before you enter this place you go via the store and all those bread, cakes, healthy yoghurts, juices, cupcakes, etc. makes your mouth watering. You have to wait to be seated and it was a Sunday but I came there around 12-30-13:00 o'clock and there was enough place and you can even sit outside. I ordered a coffee latté (they don't have syrups) , orange juice & the goat cheese with pickled vegetables and pumpkin seeds and you get a slice of bread which was delicious. The combinations of the carrots which was pickled and sweet vegetables was beautiful made up on my plate. The waiters are all young and wearing a nice t-shirts/sweater from the store? I was wondering if you as a customer could buy this too? The plates and cups were beautiful and fits the store and vibe of this place. Different people; young or old. I payed around € 23,00 for my order which I feel was a good price for what you will get. I will definitely...
Read moreIt is a nice café, well decorated and good coffee. It was busy so clearly popular and the food seemed overall good. Staff were nice enough. However I wanted to review in particular the gluten free options, as other reviews have stated they are good - unless I just had a poor experience, I don't recommend for gluten free. Everything on the menu contains gluten. A couple of dishes were clearly gf without the bread so I asked if they had gf bread - it was confirmed that they do, but I'd have to buy a whole loaf. I wouldn't have minded this so much, but they did not substitute anything else, so essentially I paid nearly 9 euros for a boiled egg, some jam and a knob of butter, plus the cost of the loaf of bread.
It should also be noted that the cafe doesn't have any baby change facilities and has a number of steps so not terribly suitable with a wheelchair or pram.
That said, if you're looking for a breakfast in Vienna and need something gluten free, at least you know they have bread, which is more than a lot of...
Read moreIs it only me, or are eat-in prices at Joseph Brot exhorbitantly high? I had the cheapest lunch item on the menu, an OK tasting "omelette" measuring max. 15 cm in diameter x 1.5 cm in height with a little feta cheese+very few, very chewy Shiitake mushrooms, that came with two very thin and small sizes of their signature bread (good but lots of "holes" - yes, I know! Sourdough is supposed to have holes...). My drink was also on the lower end of the price list: lots of soda with a little bit of apple juice... I am sorry I took no photos, but you'll get the picture. Tables and chairs are oldish, worn, low quality "wood" (?), uncomfortable and very close to each other, so you practically share your neighbors' conversations... Yet the place is permanently full. There is no effort to make it attractive or easy (high unwieldy steps to negotiate). Service was OK but not outstanding either. My lunch cost almost 20 Euros. How do they manage to get away with this bad...
