We stayed at the Vienna Marriott for 5 nights in May 2025. Immediately following excellent Marriott stays in Berlin, Dresden (Autograph Collection), Prague, and Budapest (terrific property!), we had high hopes for this hotel, especially given how expensive it was (we paid in points, but it was a lot of points). My wife is a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Member. ||Positive features = great location (we walked everywhere); room available upon arrival around noon; upgrade to park-view room on Executive Floor; AC worked in room during several hot days; option to have free breakfast in the restaurant rather than the lounge. ||Negative features = huge issue with “fitness” room (see below); AC not working in M Club lounge (see below); staff inattentive to requests (no toilet paper in room when we got there and took 4 staff members to get us a roll; multiple asks to have shampoo and shower gel refilled); room right across from ice machine which we heard all night. ||So. . . As noted, we arrived around noon on a train from Budapest and were pleased that a room was available. It had a park view and was near the M Club; we noticed the ice machine across the hall but decided not to ask for a change since we were happy to get a room early and it was not making noise at that time. Ha! We heard it all night, every night, but decided that the proximity to the M Club outweighed the noise, especially since housekeeping seemed to service the room every afternoon when we came back for a break and at least we could go to the M Club for a cold drink. The AC was broken in the M Club for several days of unseasonably warm weather and the room was very hot, really uncomfortable. ||Our biggest complaint was with the pool/fitness area. The hotel advertises on its web site that the pool opens at 8:00 a.m., and “fitness” is open 24/7. My wife is an early morning exerciser and a lap swimmer who likes to pace out a pool before swimming, We went down to see the facilities the first afternoon we were there, and were told by the off-putting desk attendants that we were not permitted to go into the pool area to see the pool with shoes or any street clothing (??) – only a swim suit, hotel bathrobe, and hotel slippers. There was a nice stretch room with a window overlooking the pool so we at least looked at it. The next morning, my wife got to the fitness floor very early, only to find that the stretch room was on the other side of the locked door to the pool and completely unavailable—only the room labeled “fitness” was open (I guess stretching is not part of fitness at this hotel). To make matters worse, there were no mats, drinking water or toilet facilities included in “fitness,” and the ventilation did not start working until 5:00 a.m. Also, no weights less than 4.4 kilos, which interestingly, we noticed another guest had pointed out a month ago, and the hotel did not replace the 2.2 K weights that had probably been removed since there was an empty space on the weight rack. In short, the hotel defined “fitness” in a very inaccurate and misleading way when boasting about 24/7 capability. ||My wife ventured to the pool one afternoon and, not surprisingly, it was extremely crowded but she was able to swim laps while dodging the 20 or so other people in the pool. She returned in her bathrobe to our room around 3:30, but of course they were servicing the room. At least the M Club did not seem so hot when she was wearing a wet swim suit and robe. ||As noted above, several requests for basic service amenities had to be repeated during our stay. The shower was great, easy to operate and not slippery as is the case with many European hotels. The bathroom faucet sprang a leak on our last afternoon, but we wrapped towels around it since we did not want to deal with hotel staff at that point since the general staff attitude seemed to be indifference, with occasional rudeness.||We would choose another Marriott property in Vienna, there are several, especially if you are interested in “fitness” or being treated in a...
Read moreI was at this Marriot for a 1 week business trip, and had some of the worst luck with rooms I've had outside of bargain-bin low end hotels...
First room I was given, the bathroom hadn't been cleaned. There were used and unclean towels still on the counter, caked with yellow makeup or something from the last guest, and an unpleasant small brown puddle underneath the toilet... Pretty gross. We spoke with the front desk and they apologized and even offered a slightly upgraded room, which was kind of them.
Unfortunately, the next room was actually even grosser. Overall the carpet wasn't what I would consider looking super clean or nice, but in particular there were some gnarly brown stains that were pretty obvious, and some even more unpleasant crusty yellow stains in multiple other parts of the carpet. There was also a bloody booger stuck on the wall, and the vent in the shower was dislodged and slipping out of the ceiling.
By this point, after a very long flight to Vienna, we were exhausted and just slept, uncomfortable as we felt, but we informed the front desk the next morning about the issues. They said they'd send someone up to clean it, and to their credit someone did try, but they only kinda cleaned up the brown stains, the yellow crusts and wall booger were unchanged. We spoke to the front desk again, they tried again, same result.
Eventually after raising the issue enough and showing pictures, the front desk staff agreed to get us a new room (they even said they shut my second room down altogether, so it was clearly in pretty bad shape). We were pretty disappointed still, this third room was a downgrade back down to basic room, which they said was an upgrade because it had a nespresso (?)...
This didn't exactly feel fair, being ping-ponged around b/c we just kept getting dirty rooms, so after asking they offered one more room which, while nothing premium, was at least a little bigger and, blissfully, had no carpet.
The final room was clean at least, though it had clearly in its past been a smoking room at one point (I know the hotel is currently all non-smoking), it had a very strong cigarette smell, which as a non-smoker was annoying. But given the journey to that point, I as just satisfied to have a clean looking room.
Because of this experience with room cleanliness, I wasn't at all inclined to try the gym or sauna, which my coworkers also in this hotel said were nice, nor was I keen to try the restaurant or room service, so I won't be able to comment on other amenities.
Another issue I had was, as part of this frequent room shuffling, I lost some important medication at some point in one of the rooms that I wasn't able to find, and had to go to a pharmacist to try and re-fill. There was a really kind bell hop who attempted to let me look through the rooms to try though, which I appreciated.
All in all, for a $300-$400/night hotel, this was pretty rough. I appreciated that the front desk kept listening and being attentive, but there weren't any gestures at all to try and compensate for how frankly unpleasant the experience had been. Honestly it feels like someone should have visibly checked the room rather than just keep asking housekeeping to clean it, especially since the issues were clearly severe enough to temporarily suspend the room from service.
I filled out a survey after, and one of the managers reached out to apologize and offer some (5000, then upped to 20k after I explained my experience) bonvoy points, which I guess is nice but like, after this, I find it hard to see myself picking another Marriot hotel. They are not exactly priced low, and given this experience, I feel I could get a crusty hotel room for substantially less money each night. 20k bonvoy points doesn't even account for even one more night at this specific hotel.
I expect better of the brand. If this was just one room, maybe I'd see it as a fluke, but repeated issues make it...
Read moreFirst off, the check in process was brutal. I arrived early around 10am and asked for early check in which usually I get as Titanium Elite, but no the room assigned was not ready, so it took about 5 hours to get. Not option to change rooms to one ready, first time I have ever heard of that. No sense of rush or urgency. I sat in M Club lounge but was exhausted. Front desk is probably the worst I have experienced in a Marriott anywhere in the world. There needs to be a change in management. Not even an offer of a drink or water at check in.
Asked about suite upgrades was told there was none available, but I could see online. I was told that it was a mistake they were fully booked almost full occupancy. Talked to Ms. Baar the Director of Reservation and she said not available. I said I was looking at paying for it as I saw on app it was an option, oh then no problem we have suites available just not for a free upgrade for 12 nights that you are staying. I have no problem without upgrade if I wasn't lied to, but most Marriotts in Europe treat you well with Titanium status. This is the worst hotel for recognizing status or even caring about your loyalty to the brand. They need to replace this lady as it is lies upon lies in a conversation.
Location is very good. Some staff are friendly others are not. Front desk staff is brutal. The M Club lounge staff is by far the best in the hotel. Always happy and smiling while being so helpful and friendly. If only the whole hotel has staff like M Club, the hotel would rate a lot higher.
The gym is decent, smaller but packed. Tough when few people are in there to move around. Good for workouts.
Spa is overpriced and not friendly staff. The saunas, pool and steam room were down for a number of days but no notice to guests booking which it was scheduled maintenance. Steam room still down. Sucks when you book a hotel for amenities they offer and not available. Hit and miss when open, nor do they really care if you have access to services you paid for.
Food in M Club is below average to average at best. But as stated the hosts in the M Club are the best employees of the hotel that I have come in contact with.
Cleaning is hit and miss. Some days good and other days towels missed be left, no mouthwash but cleaning staff is friendly as well.
The bed is absolutely the worst bed in any Marriott I have been in. It is like sleeping on the floor or a brick. Foam pillows are about the same, I have been using a bath towel for a pillow to be honest.
Overall, I have 8 nights left as I booked a long-term rate and they wanted to charge me to leave so I have stayed rather than pay extra. If you haven't booked your hotel yet, stay in other Marriott properties in Vienna, as this is probably the worst Marriott, I have ever stayed in. I can update review if service gets worse while writing the review in the middle of my stay, but it is that bad.
Vienna is beautiful but find another Marriott hotel to stay at, you will be...
