I just attended the Mozart and Strauss concert. The venue, the mini orchestra musicians and other performers were great for the money you paid. However I am so disappointed when I walked into the hall finding myself sitting in front of a big pool of Mainland Chinese tourists from a tour group, worst of all, a row of a few parents with 3-4 young children scattered along the row chit chatting loudly. I knew this is going to be a bad experience for me straightaway and it did really turn out BAD. I joined this concert via one of the international tour groups, which is an optional activity. I paid extra to do this, knowingly this is a classical music concert. How do you expect a 5 year old to appreciate this? These people behind me are those tourists from China with money but with low education background and no common sense. By the looks of it, they don't appreciate music and art. Who would spend money taking under 10 years old kids to Mozart and Strauss concert. How would they appreciate music at such time - 8pm? The different groups of parents were literally talking to the kids all the time during the show when the children were trying to make conversation to them. Didn't you educate your children before the concert that they need to stay silent during the music performances and only talk in between? Or must you bring your 5 year old to such concert? Be considerate to others, can't you? One of the kids keep talking to the mother, and the mother kept maintaining a conversation with him/her, one kept kicking my chair and one kept throwing tantrum probably tired and bored. People with common sense and who appreciate music would not waste money taking kids at that age to concerts like this. I have turned my head a few times giving them an angry face. As I have Chinese background, the worst part is I understood every single word the parents and children said while trying to enjoy the music from the stage. I paid for Category A seats but end up with such annoyed mood as being badly disturbed. Another tour member of ours who sat two seats next to me said one male Chinese tourist from the china tour group behind him literally fell asleep and started snoring after 5 mins of the concert! During intermission I told a lady working at the door, she just said there wasn't anything she could do. I am here to give one star rating as I think the management should prohibit under 10 attending the concert, or at least attempt to warn them not to make noise or take the uncooperative children and parents out. Nothing worse than paid money trying to listen to classical music with background adult and children chatting and kids yelling right behind your ears kicking your chair. I rather buy a CD and listen music in a quiet environment if that's the case. Be fair to every guest. Don't lower your company's standard just to make a quick dollar from those china tour groups without music appreciation, low education background and no...
Read moreLet’s be honest, the only reason to go to the Kursalon is because you couldn’t get tickets to the State Opera. And given that, it is still a terrible experience not worthy of the stunning venue. The musicians are talented but the arrangements are strange, a piano accompanies all songs even if the original composition did not include a piano. The dance choreography is awkward, and the male soloist’s voice is too quiet for the pieces he sung, making it difficult to hear him.
This is an establishment that is all too happy to take easy money from tourists who know no better. Given we visited in winter, it feels especially egregious that they made cloaking coats mandatory for €2 per item, the entire audience was standing for the last 10 minutes of the performance to rush back to the cloakroom to leave in a timely manner.
If you are planning your own visit to Vienna, find literally any other place to listen to music. This experience is a total waste of your money and time in Vienna. If you are taken here by a tour guide or travel agent, they are nothing more than scam artists who do not deserve...
Read moreThis is a tourist trap. I’m glad some people were able to enjoy it, but frankly, it’s a poor & overpriced excuse for Viennese Opera / classical music performances.
We paid €65 per person, with no set seating. Everyone was forced into handing over their coats to check them in, along with being forced to pay €2 euro per coat. We were yelled at for attempting to enter with our coats. There was a sign that the venue took no responsibility for personal belongings as well. Fantastic.
The musicians were great, the soprano was good, the tenor was average and the dancers a little strange but fine. They announced songs in German and also English, which I wasn’t expecting but appreciated. Unfortunately at the end of the second act (which finished early) the entire audience was so highly strung to retrieve their coats, that each song resulted in a standing ovation in everyone’s attempt to get to the coat rack before everyone else. They had 2 people handing out coats for an audience of a couple hundred. Absolutely woeful.
Would not recommend this to anyone. It’s an...
