What a treat!
I have had this place on my wishlist for quite some time now. We had the chance to visit the place as part of the recurring promotion called Restaurantwochen.
The place is small with around 12 seats per floor but the small space and the overall vibe of Decal only helps to enhance the feeling of visiting a friend or relative and enjoying great food in a relaxed but contemporary environment.
From the first step towards your leave you always feel at ease and welcomed by both the chef, the co owner and all the staff.
We had a set three course menu with optimal wine pairing which we opted for. Each course the chef himself would explain the current course to the whole room and engage on small talk if there were questions from one of the guests.
Food and wine were amazing and the attentiveness of the whole staff only amplified the great evening. After the last dish the head chef took the time to talk with each table and engage in conversation of what the guests liked or disliked.
If you are looking for a fine dining experience in a non pretentious place with amazing staff and direct contact with the chef. Deval is the place to be.
A must visit...
Read moreIt was a lovely birthday dinner at Deval. Katharina our host was wonderful . Chef Mr Deval was amazing . We loved interacting with him , we loved that he emphasised on Indian flavours in our vegetarian 6 course meal . There were Indian Indonesian flavours generously fused, the food was spicy which we loved . Everything was perfect . They were attentive and took care of us very well . The only thing we found wasn’t matching the experience was the ambience and vibe of the place . Tables are kept too close . Thankfully we took an early dinner so until 7:45 pm we didn’t have to experience any noise and chatter as we were just two couples in the whole of ground floor but then later other tables got full and it got crowded and noisy . Apart from this , another improvement needed is the fact that instead of Turnips may be including some protein for vegetarians would be better . But , overall , what a scrumptious meal ! Chef Deval is a genius and we are so glad we have Deval here in Vienna. We will...
Read moreFound this place via the Michelin guide. We visited and the chef greeted us and said he is taking care of the entire restaurant that day since his wife was sick. Therefore we had like a private dining experience.
Restaurant is small, but nice, nothing to fancy. The food now, was very interesting and all plates had strong flavors (maybe besides the dessert which was as sweet as it should be to end the whole experience and is among one of the best desserts we had tasted this year). One thing that we mentioned to the chef, is that all 4 first dishes were spicy, especially the one with the lentils has very "heavy" flavors and is spicy enough so someone who doesnt like spicy food, wont be able to finish it. I feel that is something that should be taken into consideration when designing a menu, that some people cant handle spicy food. Besides that and considering the price (compared to other places in Vienna) it is a place i would happily go back to, when...
