Gelateria Castelletto — Restaurant in Vienna

Really disappointed with this restaurant. The food was really delicious and priced fairly, however, the staff were incredibly rude. They seemed the whole time as if we were a hinderance. While we speak minimal German, we tried our best and it wasn’t good enough. If we didn’t understand something we would be belittled and barked at. When paying, we were unaware you wait at the table and so we went to the counter. We had several waitstaff tell us off, rather than acknowledge it was a misunderstanding and ask us to sit down or to help us with the bill at the counter. We were more than willing to help but kept being told off. I was frustrated with the service and went back in to speak to the manager about it. He smirked the entire time and could not care any less about why I was upset. I said that while we don’t speak fluent German, we are trying our best and contributing to your economy as much as any other citizen so it would be nice if we were shown some respect. When I left, he and the men we had issues with laughed. Really upset as, like I said, the food was amazing. Inside was huge and overall a great place for a meal, but totally let down by arrogance and staff who took their bad...

Do not go here. If you are looking for a cosy place to eat in Vienna, stay away from this place!

The staff is unfriendly (no welcome/goodbye) they let us wait 15-20 min before a server came to our table. The restaurant wasnt packed or anything and the servers didnt seem busy either. When I went up to the counter to ask if we have to order at the counter or if a waiter will come to us, the guy said that "ofcourse a waiter will come" and "we just have to be more patient".

When paying, you can expect comments like: "You can fill in your tip here" "The tip isnt included in the prices" "You havent filled in a tip yet" (we obviously decided not to tip this bad service).

The prices are steep, the food is still nice but even if you consider that, its still pretty expensive. We both got a club sandwich and a simple drink, that was already 40 euros. It is expected to be a bit more pricy at this prime location.

The food tastes nice but the staff and vibe is so bad that I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

(BTW if you do go here (please don't), it seems like the bathrooms are 50 cents but if you ask the waiter about it, they will give you a code so you can go...

Second experience (December 2023) was a disaster. I got my family over in Vienna and we ate some good sweet stuff. A cousin of mine decided to pay, and the waiter came and ask for a tip, but she didn't want to leave any tips, because the service was not that good and we already spent a lot of money during the day. When she clicked on the button of the terminal that there will be no tips, the rude waiter said sehr nett, which means: very nice of you. I asked him if the bill itself wasn't enough and he repeated "sehr nett" all the time. Why would you then give me a choice to decline leaving a tip?! Like stop begging for a tip!!! Calculate it in the bill and leave me alone, not making an uncomfortable situation for both parties. I immediately told the manager/host that this guy was behaving rudely and don't know what happened afterwards. I will never recommend this place to anyone. My first experienxce was that me and my friend wanted to eat ice cream in a cone and this guy came outside and told us that we are not allowed to sit if we eat ice cream in a cone (?!?!?!?).
