El Gaucho in Vienna is a true gem for steak lovers, offering a perfect blend of expertly crafted dishes, a chic yet cozy atmosphere, and exceptional service. My visit was inspired by a recommendation from my friend Chef José, and I can confidently say it lived up to the hype.
Service
My waitress, Tina, was outstanding. She provided attentive, professional service and went above and beyond to make the evening special. Her recommendation for a wine pairing with my steak in pepper sauce was absolutely perfect, enhancing the flavors of the dish without overpowering them.
The Meal
The star of the night was the steak in pepper sauce. Cooked to perfection, the steak was tender, flavorful, and paired with a creamy, rich sauce that had just the right amount of spice. It’s clear that Chef José and his team are masters of their craft, with a commitment to quality and attention to detail in every plate.
Atmosphere
El Gaucho strikes the perfect balance between elegance and warmth. The stylish décor and relaxed vibe make it an ideal spot for a special dinner or a casual evening out with friends.

We came in with a reservation yesterday night and was seated upstairs i have requested a nice table for 2 but they decide to put us near this noisy group of 20+ people celebrating an event that is in the middle of the restaurant not even in a private space with no communication to us so we could have a choosing.
Service was awful. Let’s start drinks, i ordered the pear fuzz/fizz and the raspberry garnish had dirt, i brushed it off as it can happen. The main dish that we ordered was a ribeye steak in medium rare. Arrived to us medium well done, i politely ask the waiter to recheck but insisted that it was medium rare after a while he took the meat and have it redone, he offered to refresh my sides but i clearly said no, but then we he served the steak with the sides, still not listening to what we are saying. During the waiting time in between we asked for the drink menu, the whole time none of the waiters (even us waving to call their attention ) came to take our order a second round of drinks.
Not even basic water was offered, no recommendation of food, not even a friendly polite smile from any of the staff on the first floor. Again for the price doesn’t match the quality and the service, better off finding some different...
Read moreI had a disappointing experience at El Gaucho at Rochusmarkt on 20 December 2024. From the moment I arrived, the attitude of the receptionist set the tone. When I politely asked about the options, I was met with an irritable response, being told to just look at the menu.
The service didn’t improve from there. I ordered a medium-rare T-bone steak, but what I received was inconsistent—half of it was medium-rare, while the other half was medium-well. When I raised this issue, the staff member brushed it off with a condescending explanation about the cooking process, as if I was supposed to accept that ordering medium-rare means only half the steak would be cooked as requested. I ended up only eating the half that was medium-rare, which was incredibly frustrating considering the price.
What left an even worse impression was the distinct difference in treatment I observed. The receptionist seemed much friendlier and more accommodating to local/Austrian customers. As an Asian guest, I couldn’t help but feel that my concerns and presence were dismissed, which is both disappointing and unacceptable in an establishment of this caliber.
This experience did not meet expectations, and I sincerely hope the management takes feedback like this seriously to improve both their service and...
