Extremely disappointing experience – Not recommended for families or respectful guests.

We had a highly upsetting experience at Jarita’s Indian Kitchen (Prinz-Eugen-Straße 28, Vienna) that we feel must be shared publicly.

Our family of nine, including elderly and disabled members (my mother and two sisters with medical conditions), had a reservation for a late lunch around 7:30 pm. Upon arrival, the indoor area was heavily saturated with kitchen odors (strong curry and spice smells). Although we initially requested to be seated indoors, we asked for an outdoor table due to the smell. Still, we had to move inside because the outdoor area was directly on a noisy, narrow street and uncomfortable for our mother.

While we were reviewing the menu, one of my sisters—recovering from knee surgery—tried to get the staff's attention to inquire about halal food. She politely signaled several times, but was completely ignored. Instead, the man (later claiming to be the owner) bypassed her and went directly to my wife, seated next to her, to take the order.

When my sister politely expressed feeling disrespected and ignored, the man responded defensively and claimed her gestures weren’t precise. What followed was even more shocking: he abruptly told our entire family to leave the restaurant, using dismissive language and referring to us as a “9-packed family,” which felt discriminatory and humiliating, especially in front of other diners.

None of us had said anything—we were completely silent as my sister tried to address the issue respectfully. His reaction was unjustified and unprofessional. We left calmly, gathered our belongings, and went elsewhere, despite the inconvenience of finding a last-minute booking for a large group.

This kind of treatment towards guests—especially families and those with visible medical needs—is unacceptable. No matter who is right or wrong, there is no justification for ejecting a group of nine simply because one person requested basic courtesy and transparency from the staff.

This review is being shared not out of anger, but to protect other families—especially travelers—who expect basic respect and decency when...

We had a nice experience at Jarita’s Indian Kitchen. The hosts were absolutely amazing — very friendly, welcoming, and accommodating, even though we didn’t have a reservation. They quickly arranged a table for us, which we really appreciated. The lassi was excellent, very fresh and perfectly made. The curries we tried were okay — seemed to be prepared more towards local Austrian taste rather than authentic Indian spice levels, so don’t expect full Indian-style flavors. But the overall hospitality, service, and warm atmosphere made the visit very pleasant. A good spot if you’re looking for a comfortable Indian meal with great service while in Vienna.

Smallish place by the belvedere castle. But amazing food quality and service. Nice cute ambiance as well. The plain naan was well done and more like roti and light on the stomach which was good. The navrathnam korma was cooked with fresh vegetables and yummy. The raita although expensive was well worth it to cleanse up the spicy food. They offered free tap water which was nice. There is a lot of street parking near by in case you are driving. About 1.5km from the main railway station , so a good place to eat before you head to the trains. Overall highly recommended Indian restaurant in Vienna.
