The Hotel Johann Strauss is easy to get to from the Vienna main railway station (Wien HBF) by either walking or the U-Bahn (underground/metro), just one stop away on route U1 and the hotel is only about 50 metres from the exit! Likewise getting into the centre town is an easy 15 to 20 minute walk or the U1 will take you there in just two stops.||The hotel itself is good value for money. yes there are a few irksome things, one being that the air-conditioning ft guestrooms doesn't appear to get switched on until the month of June and secondly, the shower pressure is a hit or a miss as is the temperature of the water. TV screen is also very small but like most people, does it really matter? Are you there to see Vienna or the TV? The rooms are big, the bed is comfortable enough the hotel is clean and the internet wifi works well. There is also the usual hotel type safe in the bedroom cupboard.||Breakfast is buffet style, the usual for Europe. Choice of breads, rolls, pastries, croissants etc as well as a choice of cereals, yoghurts, egg, bacon and sausage as well as cold meats and cheeses, fruit juices and a coffee machine. A good variety and it was tasty.||Staff are helpful and polite, especially Ferdinand. A big plus point.||Overall, if back in Vienna I would return to the hotel as I thought it good value for money and the staff were very...
Read moreThis hotel was perfect for our 3 day city trip to Vienna.
The hotel was conveniently located next to the U-bahn. The bigger Karlsplatz U-bahn station with more connections, including to Schönbrunn, was in 10 to 15 minutes walking distance. The Vienna Hauptbahnhof was within 20 minute walking distance or 1 stop removed by U-bahn.
The hotel staff spoke both German and English. Our room and bathroom were both very clean. The rooms were well isolated, I didn't hear any noise from outside or from other guests, and slept very well. But note that our room was on the top floor at the end of the corridor, and didn't face the street side. 2 Pillows were provided per person so you could choose your preferred pillow height. Minibar was available for additional payment.
The bathroom has a two-combined-in-one shampoo & body wash in a big dispenser, hand wash & lotion in big dispenser, and hair conditioner in a small bottle available. There also was a hair dryer, two glasses and a sewing kit. The only very minor downside of the room was that the water temperature in the bath/shower was hard to regulate and not very consistent.
The hotel offers breakfast, but plenty of breakfast options are available...
Read moreWe spent a total of five nights at Hotel Johann Strauss one on our arrival in Austria and four on return from Radstadt. On our arrival, for one night we were on the first floor where the rooms were rather small, on our return to Vienna we stayed on the 6th floor where the rooms were larger. |The hotel is centrally located which is quiet convenient for walking down to the historic district and the underground station is located about 50 to 70 m from the hotel. Convenience stores are also within walking distance. |The front desk was extremely helpful and ready to provide all information and necessary guidance, Peter requires special mention as his cheerful nature coupled with readiness to assist was outstanding. There was a decent spread for breakfast as far as variety goes however the menu was the same right through our stay. ||This review was erroneously left in the draft folder. Visit was on June 2022 but since it has reached the cut off date it is loaded as Sep 2022 noted here for sake is good order...
