If you're in the mood for a culinary journey that takes your taste buds on a salty expedition, accompanied by a pint of frothy goodness, then this restaurant might just be your ticket. Let's dive into my experience at this intriguing establishment!
The restaurant ambiance was warm and inviting, with friendly staff who were quick to seat us and take our orders. As we perused the menu, we couldn't help but notice a recurring theme—salt. It seemed like every dish had a hint of extra saltiness, which can be polarizing for some palates.
As our meals arrived, we couldn't deny that the food was indeed on the saltier side. The flavors were bold, but the sodium levels were a touch excessive for my personal taste. However, here's where the twist comes in: the saving grace was the wide selection of beers they offered. The restaurant boasts an impressive array of craft beers and local brews that perfectly complemented the salty dishes.
We decided to take the advice of fellow patrons and opted for some hoppy ales and smooth lagers. The bitter and refreshing nature of the beers effectively helped balance out the saltiness of the food, creating a surprisingly enjoyable dining experience. It became apparent that the intention behind the culinary choices was to create a unique combination of flavors that, when paired with the right beverages, could truly delight.
Despite the heavy-handedness with salt, I must acknowledge the quality of ingredients and the creativity that went into crafting the menu. From the seafood dishes bursting with maritime flavors to the savory meat options, there were many highlights worth mentioning. The chefs clearly possess a strong understanding of flavor profiles, even if they do lean toward the saltier end of the spectrum.
The service was prompt and attentive throughout our visit, and the staff members were knowledgeable about the beer selections and offered helpful recommendations. Their enthusiasm for the food and beer pairing concept was infectious, making our experience more engaging and enjoyable.
Overall, if you have a fondness for bold and salty flavors, or if you're in the mood for an adventurous culinary outing, this restaurant might just hit the mark for you. Just be prepared for the saltiness, and make sure to grab a pint or two of their excellent beer selection to balance things out. It's an experience that requires an open mind and a willingness to explore the interplay...
Read moreSuch a shame about this place. We love authentic breweries. Unfortunately it’s gone the route of exploiting its popularity and become a tourist hotspot stereotype.
The beers are great as they generally are throughout Vienna. The food isn’t bad either though not the best of we’ve had, priced moderately.
The host acted like a Michelin Star establishment from the beginning. The line wasn’t too long though it was implied that they were well over capacity. We and 3 other parties were put on with “reserved” signs ~ but the area remained with many empty tables for the next 2.5 hrs. The waitress was exasperated and ran around like a headless chook throughout. Our first schnitzel came without potato salad - I thought this is how they did it. We had a second schnitzel as we were still starving, this time it came with so ask for yours if you don’t get it. When the mains came out, she remembered we had entrees and snacks. We finished our mains and she was clearing the plate when she asked if it had been there yet - no. That’s when we got our sausages.
Unfortunately the service was tacky at best and nothing authentic Austrian about any of it. We were about to leave a voluntary tip of more than 10% before we were asked “how much for my tip?” from the waitress. I was a bit taken aback - I said sorry, thinking I misheard. She said “tips not included, in Austria it’s 10%”. Interesting, I lived and finished my bachelors here - brand new information to me! I said “no thank you” - she started to guilt trip at this point it was becoming sad. “Did I do something wrong? Was I bad?” No, this is just bad. Also service was definitely not above and beyond, forgotten starters after mains, etc. Then she THREW the card at my boyfriend.
Let me get this clear - this is NOT standard in Austria. Being begged for tips, getting your card thrown at you for not tipping after having order forgotten - none of that was normal or typical. What’s going on, are they not paying their staff or something? I’d come here if I’d like to feel like a special tourist and don’t mind paying the...

I ordered four things - the beer set, the pork knuckle, a salad, and ribs.
Simple, right? Even the staff fully understood it.
This is when the nightmare began, only the pork knuckle, salad, and drinks arrived. BUT, when we asked for the bill, they didn't give me the receipt with the list of items and simply gave me the total sum. I thought the number was big, and thus asked for the list to double check. The waiter then went on a 15 minute expedition to get it printed.
When he returned, he gave me the receipt with the list of food ordered and aha, there it is. The missing ribs on the receipt. So I said politely that the ribs didn't arrive and if he could take it off our bill.
To everyone's surprise, he then started shouting saying that he came over to ask me twice if everything was ok (which I responsed to it being fine), and questioned WHY DIDN'T I TELL HIM THAT THE FOOD DIDN'T COME. Wow, gaslighting right away to the max. He then said I shouldn't teach him how to do his job. For real? I didn't even mention anything similar. So somehow, at a restaurant, I'm suppose to order food, NOT expect it to come, then chase the staff for it? Please, the guy wasn't even in our vicinity 90% of the time during the meal.
I am glad I kept all empty plates on the table when the food didn't arrive, or I might have needed an endoscopy to prove that the bones weren't in my stomach.
Aboslute disgrace of a restaurant,...
