Often buy bread from this Josef Brot location and have never had issues before. However, I purchased a load yesterday and when I returned home I discovered that it was under baked (potentially also under proofed) and had uncooked dough on the bottom of the loaf. The loaf was rather sticky and also inedible even after toasting. I returned to the shop this morning and was disgusted by their customer service, I explained the situation and the manager advised me that this is how the bread should be, I pointed out the uncooked dough at the end of the loaf to which she responded that yes perhaps it was a little under baked. She offered a new loaf and cut into it to ensure it was cooked fully while rolling her eyes at her colleagues and them sniggering back at her. When I asked her to compare the two loaves as they were completely different she said there was no need. I then said that there was also no need for the staff to behave in such a way and that I simply wanted a loaf of bread I could actually eat. Extremely disappointed with this Josef Brot location and the behavior of...
Read moreSuper rude staff. Walked in on a Monday morning for breakfast, which is available until 12 pm according to their website. We were told that they don’t serve cooked food on Mondays. So we started looking at the bread and pastries to decide if we want to take something. At which point we were rudely told to wear a mask. Mind you, at this point in time, masks are only compulsory in Austria on public transport and essential shops. I thought I was walking into an eatery where they are not required. So the attitude with which we were scalded to put on a mask is totally uncalled for. We left without trying any of their tiny little croissants but they sell their products at better restaurants all over the city, so head to those!
Edit in response to owner: when a customer is deciding whether to dine somewhere, they look at the menu, not at the hours. When a menu states that a certain dishes are served 8 am - 12 pm with no days of the week specified, the customer will assume these are the opening hours every day and won’t bother to look up the bistro hours on another part of...
Read moreWith eight locations across Austria it would be difficult to suggest Joseph Brot is anything but successful, the Bakery’s focus on 100% Organic Ingredients predictably commanding premium prices for handcrafted Food combining modern techniques with traditional recipes.
A bit different from store to store, some simply Patisseries while the flagship on Landstraßer Hauptstraße also contains Joseph’s Bistro, it was around 10h00 Wednesday that three guests sat down to enjoy a snack at the location on Kirchengasse.
Frequently Vegan and always handmade, but on this day served by a frankly abrasive man behind the counter, it was from a fairly limited selection that Banana Bread proved fairly basic before moving on to a Carrot Cake Muffin topped with Cream Cheese Frosting.
Not offering Apfelstrudel on this day, instead “Apple Strudel Cake,” flavors ring true from the soft Sponge base to the rustic lattice-work while the area in between is loaded with stewed Fruit, Butter...
