We had our afterwork dinner and drinks and colleague sendoff here and I finally found my favorite type of Austrian food because of this restaurant: Gröstl.
I ordered the Bierteuflgröst'l because I was really curious about it - the ingredient combination (crispy fried with potatoes, peppers, mushrooms, bacon, onions, and hot peppers with fried egg). I was also told it is served in a sizzling pan/platter. So there is spice and it is hot - perfect for cold weather and heavy - perfect for drinking beer.
And I was right.
I was raving about this but Bierteufl's Bierteuflgröstl when I was there but wow - warm food where flavors just burst on your tongue and paired with beer? wow. just...wow.
It also reminded me of another "beer food" served in a sizzling platter from my home country - the Filipino sisig.
I have no idea if I ate the small one (13.9 Eur) or the big serving (15.9 euro) but I paired it with an Augustiner Edelstoff beer - best 20+ euros I have spent.
The staff are also great. Our group has German-speakers and non-German speakers and they were accommodating and made sure our orders arrived as efficiently as possible. And yes, you can pay with card here.
So if you are in the area, go and try the (wide) selection of beers and drinks and the great food (and if you can handle a little heat, try the Bierteuflgröstl!!)...

Found this place while looking for a beer garden on Google maps, and the reviews seemed hit or miss, dome complained of mediocre service and the location off a street... didn't know what to expect. So glad we headed over there !
It was not crowded at 530pm, no reservation needed. We showed up with a baby in a stroller and were treated with absolute kindness and interest by our lovely waitress Mikke, who brought us out recommended beers when we didn't know what to order, and was patient and helpful even with my gutter-level German. She even brought us an extra egg basically for free after my infant daughter demolished mine. Food was delivered quickly and was of excellent quality, fresh and hot. Alpensausenschnitzel delicious.
We sat outside at the typical long tables and benches but the interior looked quaint, alongside many locals meeting up for a beer and snacks. Super happy about our decision to go, and the bill was very...
Read moreI really liked this spot! It is the perfect place to wind down from a long day, as evidenced by the customers who were all groups of friends just hanging out for a drink and a chat. The selection of on-tap beer is the very best of Bavarian/Austrian/Czech brews and is complemented by an ample range of bottled beers from Belgium and other countries. I did not try the food but the menu seemed promising if simple but well made fare is what you’re looking for. From my spot at the bar I could see the kitchen staff doing an excellent job of cleaning up so I would definitely trust anything coming out of there. The bar staff was friendly and attentive and were happy to include a solo traveller like me in their running conversation. The low ceiling, wood paneling and absence of music created a cozy atmosphere that was exactly what was needed on that particular freezing cold evening but the beer garden outside is surely a great spot in summer. If good beer and easy conversation is what you’re after, this...
