Truly shocking Vietnamese food. I'm not the best Vietnamese cook but I've made an infinitely better pho in my sleep, completely lacking in depth of flavour, the pho chay tasted like a stock cube with boiled veg inside and only 4 pieces of tofu. This was also served with a desert spoon as well making it impossible to eat properly
When we complained of this to the waitress, she instantly guessed we were complaining about the flavour and suggested it was cause they didn't add any 'additives'. Sure, don't need MSG for it to taste good.
The rice and veg with lemongrass and chili was 95% bell pepper poorly fried which apparently is traditional (suuure), but more importantly, again, the sauce had no distinct flavour beyond a vague spiciness and zero lemongrass flavour to it.
2* cause the service was fine and we did eat it, it wasn't completely offensive but just very very bland.
I sincerely doubt the people working here would eat it, I've had much better Vietnamese food in chains in England. If we weren't very hungry we would've left and refused to pay to be honest.
Save your money and go elsewhere for proper Vietnamese, lest this put you off a wonderful world of...
Read moreAgain, another Vietnamese restaurant in Vienna has failed me a lot, esecially their Phõ. In my own experiences as world traveler, psychologist & as Vietnamese food expert and chef, all of the Vietnamese restaurants in Vienna can never achieve the authentic Vietnamese cuisine if they do not want to listen to the upright criticism and then try to improve themselves for their own good. The only plus point here in this restaurant is the friendly young lady working there : good, well-mannered and decent in her communition skills. She should be the example for other arrogant and selfsufficient personnel/owners in a lot of Vietnamese...
Read moreIf you’re craving some pho in the area, this is probably one of the better options. However, coming from someone who has had a lot of pho from the US, this pales in comparison. The broth flavor isn’t quite there, there wasn’t a great amount of meat, and hoisin sauce and sriracha weren’t provided either. The veggie dish was particularly lacking, as it was overly salty and it tasted like frozen veggies tossed together. The sweet potato fries were good though, and the waiter is really nice. I’d recommend if you’re really craving some Vietnamese food but don’t expect legit...
