Been there twice on my trip to Vienna this month. I would have given 5 stars if I had only visited once; unfortunately, I went back on my last day in Europe to catch up my plane. Everything was great on the first visit. I even bought two other pastries to go as shown in the photos. The second visit was off, everything! The server asked if I wanted salt, pepper or cheese for my scrambled eggs and complained why I didn't want anything; then I replied with a question if the scrambled was savory itself and got a shoulder shrug indicating no idea...well, what a nice service. As for the Grande Melange, terrible! At least, not as wonderful as the first time I had there. I guessed it was made by a different person that day. When I posed the doubt to the server, he said maybe it was because I had some other food earlier. Well, it was possible, but hey, I have been drinking coffee or latte-ish coffee for more than two decades! I would have known. Anyway, it was not a good memory on my last day of my trip in Europe. When I went to the counter to pay, I was asked about the tips. Well, the place was pricey already. As shown in the photos, they are around 27 euros plus an additional 10% tip. The server said he had 3 kids and parents in his large family to raise. Well, I even asked him if he was alright because he looked like a different person comparing to the earlier visit. I ended up paying a 5% gratuity. The huge difference between the two visits really shocked me. 3-star today is for the...
Read moreSeeing the time we had there I wonder how they managed to get 5 stars. The first interaction we saw was a group of people that were already told when they had to leave even before their order got taken, that really had me astonished about how the people complimented the service. The price of the food is way over the top for really simple stuff nothing out of the ordinary, we got omelettes that were decent but you had to pay for the bread and butter that comes with it?? I’ve never seen that in my life 4€ for the bread 1,30€ for the butter and 1,40€ for the marmalade, obviously that wasn’t mentioned on the menu it would be too easy so you pay 8€ for your omelette and 8€ for your bread. The place is cramped, that’s not really out of the ordinary seeing the notes and the fact it is located next to one of the best museums of Vienna, but what is really astounding is the fact that they put a person at the table of someone who was already eating alone. Fortunately it didn’t bother the person but I can’t fathom the fact they impose that on people. We left there with a bitter sensation especially because it was the first café of the trip knowing the type of service I had in cafés in Budapest and other cafés in Vienna this one really was the lowest...
Read moreHad an amazing experience in this little charming cafe! I stayed 3 days in Vienna and the morning after I arrived, decided to have brunch there. Read about how friendly the hosts are and Im absolutely not bragging about it. They made the best first impression, specifically one og the gentlemen with a warm welcome and friendly chat. To me, the most interesting part of the conversation with him was the fact that he was on a world tour with his coffee knowledge for 20 years!! and got back to Vienna 2 years ago. I wish he could pay us a visit in Oslo too!
My first visit I had omelette with ham, cheese and veggies and a tasty Cappuccino, plus a vegan banana bread to go. Enjoyed having my meal sitting on the cozy sidewalk outdoors sitting. The food kept me full almost the entire day despite the long city walks and sightseeing. On my second (last) visit, I ordered ham and artichoke quiche with another Cappuccino. The quiche is a MUST try! I also had the "Weiner Melange", something between a Latte and a Cappuccino. It was awesome and thanks again to the friendly nice host who recommended it to me. This place is highly recommended and i will absolutely pay another visit next time I...
