Unfortunaly our experience was pretty bad. We were there around 1pm, there was just one waiter and one guy in the bar. We took a table close to the Windows just to realize all the tables were covered with dust. The waiter came with a very Bad attitude to take our order, we ordered 2 micheladas and Nachos with Pulled Pork, they were good actually,, we had to wait a long time to order our Main dish, because the waiter never came back to ask If everything was ok...so finally he was there. We ordered Tacos und my wife a Burrito. Tacos ok, but the "Burrito" was poor presented and my wife had to ask again for the Beans inside, cause they didn't put any ( and it is on the Menú). So behind us was the same guy who was in the bar , My wife asked him about this detail and he get a Bit upset, maybe cause we "interrupted " him, cause actually he was working with a computer just behind us....???, the same guy who brought the main dish. ( Asian person) We asked for the Check, and this time came another waiter in a very Bad mood to charge, I even tip him and he never said thank you or anything similar. It is so dissapointing how people think that a restaurant full of "images and fake Mexican logos " can think that they actually can Show proudly how amazing is Mexican food. Amigos instead trying to make you restaurant look mexican, you should start for the service, In Mexico we threat our guest with a smile and we like to make friends, otherwise drop your "Mexikan concept" and Dedicate your brand to something that u really know, Schnitzel, etc etc, maybe you could do it Better. But please, dont try to be something that u dont have any idea about it. From a Mexikan . Anytime you are invited to my Mexican Restaurant in Hamburg, maybe I could teach you a couple of things about the food , but mostly...
Read moreAfter a rather disappointing first visit on Friday 26th of June (we have been to the Santos in Neubau a few times without any reason to complain) the restaurant contacted us and invited us to give Santos Wieden a second chance.
We finally we're able to take them up on their offer in the beginning of september and we happily can say, that the issues we had the first time - slow service, wrong food served, unattentive personell - we're not an issue anymore.
The service ran smoothly the whole night, we never had to wait too long for any drinks or food. Also compared to the first visit, the quality level of the food definetly improved over the summer (but please stop using those tiny tiny bowls for serving the dips for the tortilla chips - it's almost impossible to dip anything out of them, they have to be wider in diameter or almost half the dip stays trapped in the tiny bowls)
The food is good to very good in relation to the price, but the real highlight of Santos are the cocktails!
The restaurant seems genuinely committed to improve the customer experience and took our criticism to heart. As an added bonus at the end of the night the management not only bought us some drinks on the house (as offered in the invitation to come a second time) but our whole evening - food and everything - was on the house.
So the second chance was definetly worth it and we will be coming back as paying customers to Santos...
Read moreAnthony took very good care of us. All the food was very fresh, and excellent quality. I got distracted, and forgot to take pictures, but there were a couple of details that may not be what you expected. I ordered the Baja fish tacos, and after having spent a few months in Baja California, recently, I feel like I can provide authoritative feedback about them: they were crispy, the batter was good, and came with some slaw on top, and a bit of avocado creme. Very good!
My husband ordered fajitas, and the moment I saw them, I was very glad they weren't mine! Entirely a matter of taste, but I like the meat in very small strips, and sauteed with the veggies, all mixed up in a skillet. The Santos version was a huge steak, made medium rare, on a bed of grilled onions, and peppers. I hear the steak was very tender, though, but I find putting a big slice of meat in your fajitas is not ideal. Again, a matter of preference.
We had Meinl coffee, and shared a portion of freshly fried churros. The chocolate dip was worth mentioning! Dark chocolate of obviously very good quality.
All in all, I stand by the 5 stars rating....
