It had been on my bucket list for a while. I was hesitant to try yet another cookie-cutter Vietnamese restaurant, as so many tend to serve the same things. Luckily, a local friend insisted I come—and now it’s on my list of must-visit Vietnamese spots in Vienna. To start, the menu is extensive. Strangely, for a restaurant named Hoi An—a city in Central Vietnam—a lot of the dishes come from the South. But I don’t mind. They put peanuts on the rice, which I suppose is a Central touch. Many of the offerings are familiar, the kind of dishes a Vietnamese family might have at dinner. I ordered the fish sour soup and the pork stew, and both were incredible. The pork was tender, and the soup had a very traditional flavor. I only wish it could be a place where anyone could experience proper home-cooked food—but unfortunately, it can be quite pricey. The service is attentive, and the decor is lovely.

The food is alright to be honest. The pho bo is extremely over cooked. The banh mi was quite good. The spring rolls were too spicy. I believe that added too much pepper it killed the flavour of the rolls. One last thing that we experienced, is that they didn’t let us pay by card with our Swedish credit card. We wanted to pick EUR as currency. But they absolutely told us that the owner doesn’t want foreigners cards using EUR currency. It is strictly illegal. As a foreigner with a foreigner credit card it is up to me to choose the currency I would like to pay for. The answer that he gave us was because the owner doesn’t want to pay 3,5% fees. So please make sure that you have EUR to go to this restaurant. The waiter is very nice! Good service overall.

Food is DELICIOUS and fairly priced, service is very nice and hard-working, and atmosphere is pleasant. Ingredients are fresh and very tasty, it's not the kind of Asian food that will give you stomach ache, I have very sensitive stomach and I felt great after it. Be prepared that your clothes will smell like the food the next day because kitchen is just divided with a curtain. It's not the problem for me since it's a nice smell, but some might mind it, so fair warning. Can't wait to come back!! Food is just so good...

Again, another Vietnamese restaurant in Vienna has failed me a lot, especially their "Cá kho Tô", irritatingly senseless and salty and the taste has nothing to do with the real Vietnamese Cá Kho. They even overcharged me for the requested "bean sprouts". I'll give this dish 4.5/10. In my own experiences as world traveler, horeca-psychologist & as Vietnamese food expert and chef, a lot of the Vietnamese restaurants in Vienna can never achieve the authentic Vietnamese cuisine if they do not want to listen to the upright criticism and then try to improve themselves for their own good. Most of the Vietnamese personnel seem very self-sufficient, and should definitely improve their communication/service skills & decency when dealing with clients/guests. And for your own business’s good, Banh Mi Hoi An, you should not ever get insensibly smart with such an arrogant attitude & misjudgment with...

This place started off really well, but unfortunately both the service and the food have changed for the worse. They began to use some nasty hoisin-based sauce for the banh mi, which gives the dish a very salty, artificial flavor and makes a lazy impression. In addition, last time the service was distracted and unfriendly - they brought us the wrong sandwiches, and even though they admitted it was their mix-up, they were reluctant to replace the order. When we insisted, both the man and the woman turned quite rude. As expected from their reaction, the replacement banh mi was mostly bread and that awful new sauce. I was so disappointed and irritated that I don't think I will ever give the place another try. Three stars for the strong start, zero stars for the...
