The Golden Harp - Irish Pub Landstraße — Restaurant in Vienna

I'm disappointed by The Golden Harp, and it's mostly about eating and service - had I to just went and gotten drinks, my rating would've been probably different.

The place is delightful - it looks like a scruffy cafe from the late 1800 with boiserie that was just decorated to look like an irish pub (some guinness signs, etc).

We sat down in a small-ish table (the only one that had available, which would barely fit 3 people). We ordered ribs and what I think wanted to be a caprese open sandwich.

First mistake: I tried to order a side of vegetables. Asked the waitress if this was possible, she said yes. Then I confirmed that I wanted the side, and she said that wasn't possible. Strange, but maybe that was by broken german.

Then the food came. I couldn't fit it on the table. I had to head ribs balancing the plate over the table. And then I discovered both chopping boards were split, and had a 1cm gap, which dripped juices down on us.

Also, they forgot to exclude something from the sandwich. No problem, they said, they will remake it from scratch. We asked, given they were redoing it, if it was possible to have a smaller portion. They said no, they were scraping the mozzarella from the bread and remaking the same using the same bread, and that it was already ready. From that point, until the sandwich came out again, it took 15 minutes (wasn't it already ready?).

The food itself: ribs were overly greasy and I think lacked cooking time - they were though and chewy. The open sandwich was the most disappointing - the mozzarella had a strange taste, it was melted, and cooked the tomato underneath, rendering the bread soggy. All that could be tasted was the basil, which was way too much.

Rating 5 stars for the place, 1 start for the food, and 2 star for the food service averages at...

The most amazing neighborhood pub!

I can not say enough positive things about this lovely place. Ever since I stepped foot in it, I was greeted by warm welcome, nice chats, great people, good food, awesome music - you name it. The staff is quite friendly, helpful and service is swift. The food is far beyond basic bar food, you can grab a lunch menu Mon- Fri or chose from a great selection, plus specials - all freshly prepared and tasty. Yes, even good vegetarian dishes, not entirely sure about vegan.

Drink selection is diverse and caters to many tastes, be it beer, cider, wine or also alcohol-free.

What I enjoy most about the Harp 3 (there are at least 2 more in Vienna), is the ambience and the patrons. Often times you just come for drinks with a friend or a small group of such, but not unusally you end up in conversations with other friendly people or even celebrations at one of the sports nights.

Never have I not gotten a nice place to sit and chat - so, yeah - it can be crowded, but there is more than enough room, no need to go elsewhere.

Ich war schon des öfteren im Golden Harp im 3. Bezirk, sowohl für Auftritte meiner eigenen Band, als auch bei Konzerten von den Bands meiner Freunde. Bis jetzt waren wir zufrieden, aber was sich gestern bei unserem Konzert in diesem Lokal abgespielt hat war eine bodenlose Frechheit!

Konzerte finden dort immer in einem unteren Stockwerk statt, wo auch ein großer Lagerraum ist, in dem die Musiker während ihrer Auftritte Privatgegenstände, Instrumentenkoffer, etc. lagern können. Das war bei unseren vorigen Konzerten immer so und wurde bei Ankunft gestern auch wieder mit dem für den Konzertbereich zuständigen Kellner abgesprochen.

Nach dem ersten von drei Teilen des Konzerts kam es in diesem Lagerraum zu einer Auseinandersetzung zwischen einem der Musiker, einem anderen Kellner und dem Chef, wobei der Musiker verbal und dann auch körperlich (durch Schubsen) angegriffen wurde, weil die beiden der Meinung waren, dass er nicht das Recht hätte, den Raum zu betreten. Der Musiker versuchte, sich zu erklären und wies auch darauf hin, dass einer der Kellner darauf hingewiesen hatte, dass wir Musiker unsere Sachen dort verstauen sollten. Der Chef und der Kellner ließen nicht mit sich reden und holten sogar die Polizei dazu. Vom Chef fielen währenddessen noch Aussagen wie zum Beispiel: "Was ist das unser Problem, dass du grade einen Kontrabass lernen musst, hättest du hald Flöte gelernt, die könntest du mit der herumtragen, dann hätten wir jetzt keine Probleme mit dir...", bezogen darauf, dass ihn anscheinend der Koffer vom Kontrabass störte. Dann schmiss er den Musiker einfach aus dem Lokal. Der Kellner, der uns dem Auftrag gab unsere Sachen zu verstauen würde zwar zum Gespräch herangezogen, jedoch wurde vom Personal nicht zugegeben, dass dieser Konflikt durch fehlende Kommunikation des Personals entstanden ist.

Im Endeffekt sahen wir uns dazu gezwungen, das Konzert vorzeitig abzubrechen! Mit diesem Vorfall hat das Lokal nicht nur Umsatz für diesen Abend verloren, sondern auch einige Gäste und Bands, die diese Lokalität sicher nicht mehr für ihre Veranstaltungungen...
