am a regular customer here. I buy freshly roasted beans here every other week. I come to work here đ§đťâđťfor a few hours almost everyday. The place is not the most modern, but has good wifi and comfortable enough seats at big tables. Good atmosphere. But most importantly, great coffee.
Lately however, the staff started to âventilateâ the place by opening the doors for extended period of time to let the fresh air inside. Currently, itâs 0 degrees outside. It becomes almost impossible to sit inside for longer than 1h and do anything productive. Itâs too cold.
I am not sure why the owner decided to implement this, most likely because of assumption that this will slow down COVID spread but none of the other places in the city seem to do that, nor has the government imposed this kind of requirement.
I actually closed the windows once and was asked to open them up again. We are already forced to prove that we are all vaccinated to be allowed to enter the premises. Why would you choose to make customers uncomfortable is a mistery to me.
Again, great coffee, but due to lack of regard to customerâs needs, I will keep the 2 âď¸ âď¸ until the owner changes his mind and removes the unnecessary discomfort.
Update:
It was wrong of me to give 2 stars just because of the cold air. I would give the place 5 stars, but because of the above mentioned reasons, I take 1 star for the discomfort. I am saying that, ventilating with cold air from outside does as much harm as covid itself. People get easily sick because of sudden temperature changes as well. You could look into proper ventilation system if you choose to follow the absurd rules of...
Read moreAmong Antwerpâs rich coffee scene, Caffènation is definitely one of the leading spots as itâs roasting business supplyâs many other cafes in town.
This coffee shop is located right at the end of the Sunday market in town, a stone throw away from the main square car park as well. Easy access but away from tourists.
When we arrived itâs pretty busy but we were still pretty lucky to get a table overlooking the lower floors. Itâs full of happy young to mid age customers enjoying coffee and chat in a colourful relaxing atmosphere.
As a roaster, their coffee menu is fairly extensive with nice quality. One of the best tastes offered in town.
What I liked most is how their interpretation of the traditional European way of serving coffee. Instead of having biscuits coming with coffee cups, they provide a big jar of yummy biscuits at the water station so when taking water, customers are welcomed to grab a few if they like. I simply couldnât stop eating the biscuits.
This is definitely a spot Iâd like to come...
Read moreCaffènation will always be my favorite coffee cafÊ in Antwerp. It was the first one I discovered when I moved and although I like exploring other coffees thoughout the city, I always come back to Caffènation.
When I first started visiting, they were located in small cozy building on Hopland. You had to have a bit of luck if you wanted to enjoy your coffee inside and even more luck to find space in the garden.
But now, on the Mechelsesteenweg, there is a lot more space! And a variety of spaces. On the first floor you can sit close to the baristas or choose to sit in the back room filled with comfy chairs and couches. And on the second floor you have an open area with tables and can work on a project, enjoy the view, or chat with a friend.
In addition to enjoying your cup of coffee, you can also buy beans roasted by Caffènation to enjoy at home. They offer espresso, filter, and decaf blends. For 32 euros you can buy a sampler of 6 to try out what they...
