6:30pm 30/10/2019 hostess refused to sit group of 7. It was not busy. It was a weekday. There was no line or crowd, with tables readily available inside and out. Closing time was noted as 24:00 (12am) We didn’t see a reason why we could not be accommodated especially without a proper explanation from the hostess. She simply said “That is not possible” as she looked at us up and down with a curled lip. I’m not sure which part of us she didn’t like. Our large coats that we were wearing since it was 39 degrees outside? Because we were foreigners that spoke to her in English? Because we have darker skin. I’m not trying to make this into a race thing but it’s the real world and this actually happens. We’d love for this “hostess” to actually “host” and be welcoming instead of judging guests before they walk in. As the manager or owner of this restaurant, I’d be appalled and flabbergasted that one of my employees turned away a large party and cost the restaurant money that night. Who knows how often this happens? Sounds like she is more of a liability than an asset. If you’re thinking of going there to eat, don’t waste your time. Kindly walk 15 additional steps to La Taverne Brugeoise. They’re kind. Quick service. Great food. And not...
Read moreFirstly, the waitress asked my father to leave the terrasse because he wasn’t ordering any beverages, which is understandable, but we’ve never encountered a problem before since me and my mother were ordering a glass of wine each. Secondly, the waitress wanted me to clean my wine glass that was accidentally knocked over. She told me to clean up my glass which was beyond humiliating in front of such a large crowd. Luckily a waiter came to help me clean up the glass who was much more polite and respectful about the whole thing. I thought the waitress was joking at first but she was rude about her demand. Lastly, I went to take a picture of the “nightclub” that was next door to share with family and friends back home. She came over to the nightclub where we were sitting (because we felt unwelcome and didn’t want to support the business) she accused us of taking pictures of her and threaten to call the police. The fact that she found us at the bar next door to tell us that she was calling the police was completely ridiculous. Such a complete waste of time and complete embarrassment to the bar she worked for. I would strongly recommend avoiding her at all costs for...
Read moreCozy, swift and friendly service but like most overpriced for local Belgian beers Like most catering businesses in the vicinity of the big market square, the prices of Belgian local beer are overpriced, although this is still one of your better options if you must have a local beer near the market square. Most tourists don't have a clue what a Belgian local beer costs in a regular supermarket. Drinking a Westmalle Tripel here will cost you at least € 4,50, while the price for the same bottle size in a supermarket is about € 1,45 (and this includes € 0,10 you get back if you return the bottle). It means drinking a fairly common beer at Hof van Rembrandt will cost you over three times (!) the price of what you would pay in a supermarket for exactly the same product. Prices for food are more reasonable, but it's a common pitfall: charge cheaper for the food and overprice the drinks, so you'll end up with a hefty bill anyway. Service was friendly and swift and this smaller square is cozier and a little less expensive than eating or drinking on the big square...
