Best fish place I've ever been in Ghent thus far.
I have tried about every dish there now and liked them 9/10 times. The ones I didn't like where just not my cup of tea, but well prepared none the less.
I'm baffled how they offer such fresh high quality food with so little staff in the kitchen. I love the pure taste of their fish/seafoods, accompanied by sheer skill and care. The way they dress the plates is also nice on the eyes.
My absolute favourites are the tamaki sword fish, squid, tempura gamba's, sweet potato fries. The bouillabaise was also very pleasing/comforting to me. The tartar sauce they make is absolutely to die for, very fresh and full of veg/herbs, very good alongside the fried food.
I'm a beer lover and they have some nice original offers that go well with fish.
The service is also top notch, always very friendly and polite, and fast but not in a pushy way.
For lobster, one has to order a day in advance. This is good to know beforehand and ensures freshness and is also ecologically benefitial. Saves one the sight of a tank with bored lobsters aswell.
They serve small portions because they wanna encourage food sharing, makes it a nice place to have a little snack aswell as a full meal with lots of variety.
It is recommended to make a reservation beforehand, but so far they always had room at 18.00 or 20.00 o' clock the same day I called them.
10/10 would recommend this...
Read moreNestled in Ghent, Je m'en Fish is a charming fish restaurant that offers a fusion culinary experience, ideal for sharing delicious dishes. Our visit revolved around the tantalising bouillabaisse and tasty mussels, accompanied by a medley of smaller plates. The culinary skill was evident in the masterful fusion of traditional European seafood with captivating exotic flavours. This resulted in well-balanced and non-spicy dishes that catered to a wide range of palates, adding to the restaurant's appeal. Every bite was so delicious that we tried to eat every last drop of sauce, leaving us completely satisfied by the end of the meal.
The ambience of the restaurant was pleasant and unassuming, though it didn't offer anything out of the ordinary. However, the staff were friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and provided swift service throughout our meal. Despite the significant bill, the quality and quantity of the food, coupled with the delightful aperitifs, justified the expense and left us with a sense of satisfaction.
We look forward to returning to Je m'en Fish on our next visit to Ghent and highly recommend it to seafood lovers in search of an authentic and satisfying gastronomic adventure.
A word of recommendation: given the limited capacity of the restaurant, I would recommend booking in advance, especially during peak times, to ensure a table for an uninterrupted...
Read moreThis was my second visit to Je M'en Fish. I chose this restaurant for my girlfriend's birthday because we enjoyed the food during our first visit. Unfortunately, our recent experience was quite disappointing.
We ordered the Je M'en Fish plate along with a few other dishes, which you can see in the attached pictures. The food was excellent. However, when I called to book our table, I was promised a special gesture for my girlfriend's birthday. Upon arrival, the staff were unaware of this promise and informed us that any gesture was conditional on purchasing a dessert. Given that our bill amounted to 174 euros, I would have appreciated the gesture regardless.
Moreover, the glasses on our table were dusty, and there was a spider on the wall behind us (I have refrained from including pictures of the spider out of consideration). The restroom was unpleasant, with a bad odor and no tissue paper or towels available to dry my hands.
Despite the good food, these issues left me extremely disappointed, and I will not be returning to...
