Em’s Hideaway
Added:
I visited Em's a second time on another trip. She prepared a whole snapper for me. It was amazing.
Boy, the longer I am here the more tucked away these places get. 😃
I had seen the sign for this restaurant a couple of times walking back and forth.
One of my dinner companions last night said he thought it sounded interesting.
So here I am.
I was quickly greeted and my drink order was taken.
I was given the option to sit at whatever table I wished. I chose one which had chairs with backs on them. A simple thing yes. But something I’ve been missing.
My server wiped down my chosen table for me. The dust here seems to be omnipresent. I appreciate that she took a moment to perform this simple act.
I ordered a bottle of water and an ice cold Coca-Cola. Both were brought within 2 minutes of being seated.
I appreciated the trio of piano, bass, and drums, quiet jazz is a good thing. It was a nice change from the reggae or techno dance selections most places have blaring. While I enjoy music from the Caribbean, most of it is played so loud you can’t think let alone carry on a conversation with your dinner companions.
Definitely a change of ambiance for this meal.
I placed my order. Jerk Chicken with Coconut Rice and Sautéed Vegetables. I was asked if I wanted cilantro in my rice. I responded that yes I did.
After a short 10-minute period, my food arrived. The chef herself, Emelia, brought out my plates. Yes plates.
The first contained the jerk chicken. And what a generous potion it was. A large chicken breast with onions and peppers and a delightful jerk sauce.
The second plate was the coconut rice and vegetables. The rice had the signature touch of coconut flavoring and had a small amount of cilantro mixed throughout.
The vegetables included zucchini, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, green papers, onions, and pumpkin.
I finished my meal with a piña colada. As expected, it was excellent. Great presentation too.
Overall an excellent dining experience. Like all the other meals here, I never felt rushed.
I sat and talked with Emelia for awhile. How the restaurant came to be, the trials of being a small business owner, and the like. A good end to a pleasant evening.

Read moreWhere do I began! My first night in Caye Caulker I ordered take out and was lucky enough to pick Em’s! I had grilled fish that was amazing with salad and coconut rice and beans. Later in the week I ordered the grilled chicken burger and fries TWICE and each time SO delicious! The husband of the cook delivers and he is so kind and full of good vibes! Then, I break my hand on the island. I mention it to them when I’m ordering and they offer to help me and bring anything I might need from the store as well. This business is good ALL AROUND!! The food, the price, the family that owns it!! Today is Sunday and I got the Sunday special, I chose the baked chicken, white rice and stew beans and potato salad. THE BEST!!!!! I ate every bite!! I’ve also ordered the salad two times and it’s also very fresh and good! Again, when the husband delivers, he reminds me to not hesitate to ask for help! I can’t say enough good things about Em’s!! I wish them all the best and I know that they will prosper! Amazing food and people!! May God bless them and their business. I promise to stop in before I leave to meet the wonderful chef!! Bless up! 💕🙏🧘🏻♀️ Broken hand Pam from...
Read moreYou can’t spell awesome without Em’s!!! We were luckily enough to be here during lobster season and had the opportunity to order the lobster burger and cheesy lobster fries. On this particular day, we got done with a long day of fishing, straight off the boat I started searching lobster burgers. Found Em’s on Facebook, and the best part was that they allowed for online orders via WhatsApp! We had a pretty large order and they took care of it no problem. Best part of all, they offer delivery!! Online ordering and delivery — I quickly put an order in…and, after some time of going slow…the delivery guy showed up at our hotel like a knight in shining armor! He battled many of beasts on his journey, but upon his arrival, the full order was intact!!! Of course he was tipped handsomely for his delivery service, and the food was amazing. If you are reading this at this moment right now, stop reading, and make your way down to Em’s Hideaway (or jump on your WhatsApp and put in an online order). The only complaint is that my wife wanted to put in a triple order of the fried plantains they...
