It may not be your typical flashy Bulgarian restaurant when passing by, however Smokini is anything but average once you enter.
First time I visited, I was immediately greeted by a smiling host and asked if we needed а table. It was a weekend night out and we could feel the amazing aroma coming from the kitchen once we entered the premises. The interior looked amazing - vintage style but subtle enough to not bother you while you eat.
The light was quite ambient, but enough so you can experience the taste of the food and feel safe and warm.
The restaurant was quite full which is a good sign and we were able also to find a table quickly which was pointed out by the waiter.
The staff was almost instantaneously on the spot and we got a menu with not too many items, but just the right amount to avoid people being overwhelmed by the vast choice.
I started off with a Smokini salad, which seemed like an interesting combination of green salads accompanied by the strong but still subtle fragrance of Rockford cheese contrasted by the sweetness of the figs (smokini).
The portion was marked as 300 grams, however it seemed much much more.
After the entreé, I ordered trout fillet with potato puree, courgettes and avocado on the side.
Being a large fan of the fish dishes I usually order it as a main course quite often and I am aware of the fact that usually not many restaurants can cook fish properly. However I was totally amazed, the fish was well grilled, but just the right amount to not be dry. You could smell the aroma from the grill as well.
The portion size was still quite balanced, not too much and not too little at the same time.
After having such a pleasant time enjoying the so well and tasty prepared courses so far, I was curious what can be the perfect ending of the night. I would make an understatement if I say that the chocolate souffle was right on spot.
Overall, the experience was over the top, so naturally I started going to the restaurant and bringing out-of-town friends to show them one of the gems of Plovdiv.
Definitely will...
Read moreFriendly staff, but small tables (we were 4 people and barely fitted 4 salads + 1 appetizer, the tables are probably suitable for brunch, but not for formal dinner), very limited choice in the menu - 4 salads and 7 main dishes. We ordered vegan meatballs (personally not my type) and Caprese salad which was not worth it at all. The Caprese should be made with pealed tomatoes cut on big rounds, however, it was made with a whole tomato (not pealed) cut on 4 turned upside down. Restaurant pretending to be on high level cannot afford such pathetic interpretations. We didn’t even make it to the main course because we didn’t like the appetizers and how could I risk it and spend 30 BGN for main when I even didn’t like the appetizer. I personally do not recommend the place. I don’t know how they get such high score in Google, but I personally evaluate it with 2-3...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Smokini, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The menu offered an impressive variety of dishes, catering to all tastes and dietary Preferences. The flavors were perfectly balanced, the ingredients fresh, and the presentation was like a work of art.
The service was another highlight. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely seemed passionate about ensuring we had a great time.
Overall, Smokini exceeded all expectations. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for a great meal, this place is a must-visit. I can’t...
