the fact that these reviews are saying good things about this hostel is beyond me. the filthiest place I have ever slept in. I booked another hostel but something happened and they booked me this one. It is cheap yes. But that doesn’t mean that guests have to stay in a dirty room, with sheets that have stains on them and a bathroom that you are disgusted to go in. It is a 4 (?) bedroom apartment turned into a hostel. waaaay to many people for the space they have. again the fact that you pay some money to stay here doesn’t mean that you can’t complain about hygiene. no reception. only a password for the door downstairs and the door upstairs. there is a lock on the bedroom door but it doesn’t work. whoever wants to come in, can. there are lockers in the corridor, that are dirty and I didn’t use them because I was disgusted to leave my clothes there. If you want to contact the owner you can do with a little piece of paper with his number on the door. IF he picks up. also another thing i would like to mention for future female solo travellers. keep in mind that i only saw one woman and her child in this hostel. i don’t know if they stayed there for long. but out of the 10 people i saw, there was only one woman and me. i chose to stay in a mixed room, but i emphasise that just in case. because i would prefer to know. turns out after one night i left because i couldn’t stand to even wait for the owner there. 5 days later I am still waiting for my refund from the owner who said “i will go to the bank later”. and turns out I am never getting my refund because he deleted all messages and never texted back. don't trust...
Read moreAlthough it was slightly complicated with door codes, contactless check-in, Angel's instructions were clear, so it was a lot easier than it at first appeared. Angel is an angel. He pops round to clear the decks in the afternoon. (There are a few messy people who don't clean up. I'm hardly perfect myself, but I try to be reasonably tidy.)||But what a smashing wee hostel. Cosmopolitan community atmosphere, Scots, English, Ukrainian, Swiss, Czech, French, Belgian, Argentine, German, Korean Texan(!). Sharing stories, food & beer & wine, playing chess, music. I found it so hard to leave. Hostel California. Plovdiv's an interesting atmospheric city, and a visit to Bachkovo monastery was an easy grand day out. ||Just in case the hostel's full, there's Pijama House just along the road: more privacy I guess without the late laughter & snoring. Not much dearer. All amazing value, fun & comfort.||WiFi was a bit hit or miss at times, as was warm water, but not grumbling: Pijama Hostel is cheap & very cheerful. Mnogo Blagodarya, Merci Monsieur Angel. Wonderful...
Read moreI dont throw around one star ratings just like that but this place deserves it. It has bedbugs. After one night there my whole body is itching. I am just returning from my trip in central Asia but had to come to Europe to experience conditions like that. It is not clean either, sheets are dirty. Slept in my clothes. Bathroom was so dirty and unappealing that I decided to skip the shower. No toilet paper. There is no reception, to enter the place (which is on the second floor of residentual building) you need access codes. I didnt know that when I arrived from Istanbul since I didnt have the internet and I didnt receive the necessary information when I made the reservation. Had to find the place to log in and see the e-mail that was sent during the day. It would save me a lot of time if that e-mail was sent two days earlier when I actually made...
