AVOID AT ALL COSTS: Extortion and Intimidation Behind a Pretty Facade Do not be fooled by the polished photos or the seemingly pleasant rooms. My stay at Hotel Somadevi Angkor Boutique & Resort was, without a doubt, the single most harrowing and disturbing travel experience of my life, and I have traveled extensively across the globe.

The room and the view were perfectly fine—that's how they draw you in. The physical space is acceptable, but the people running this establishment are anything but. The moment a problem arose, their professional veneer crumbled, revealing a culture of unethical intimidation that felt more like dealing with a gang of thugs than a hospitality service.

During my stay, the hotel staff accused me of causing damage to the room—damage that I had absolutely nothing to do with. When I calmly and reasonably asked for any evidence to support their claim, the situation escalated dramatically. Instead of a civil discussion, I was met with hostility, aggression, and tactics clearly designed to intimidate me into paying for something I didn't do. They were not interested in the truth; they were interested in extortion.

To be cornered and threatened by hotel staff in a foreign country is a terrifying experience. This wasn't a simple disagreement over a bill; it was a calculated and aggressive shakedown. The management's behavior was utterly unprofessional and, frankly, menacing.

This place is a disgrace to the hospitality industry. The beautiful country of Cambodia and its wonderful people deserve better than this predatory establishment. For your own safety and peace of mind, stay as far away from Hotel Somadevi Angkor Boutique & Resort as possible. There are plenty of other hotels where you won't be treated like a criminal. This...

Somadevi boutique and resort was a brilliant stay, great location, a step above the rest I would say while the others were amazing and really 5 stars, this was genuinely above 5 stars.||The quality of the service was honestly so friendly, welcoming and they really made you feel like you were the only ones staying there. Always checking everything is ok, the food, our stay, asking about our day, they remembered where we went, they remembered my name. Just lovely, from the people on the desk (who found something that had dropped off my clothing and my mother handed it into reception accidentally thinking it was lost by someone else, they searched and got it back to me).|The staff in the kitchen and even the chef would come and ask about everything. Mau was so lovely all the time asking how we were, he was brilliant. All the staff were exceptional.|The rooms were great, lovely big bath and shower too. Awesome big balcony to look out.|The pool was amazing, so big, I had it to myself for a long time and because it’s big it felt even when ppl came along that it was very private. They came while I was laying out, to ask if I wanted drinks or food. Their Singapore sling was very good in comparison with other restaurants I’d been to.|And the food, the food was truly the best I’d had in my whole trip of Vietnam and Cambodia. The pumpkin soup was the best I’ve had on this trip. The curry was SOOOOO GOOD! And the lobster yum! |The amok was also really yummy! The noodles at breakfast were so good too.|All in all an amazing stay. Def recommend....

Our Executive Double Room was comfortable, spacious and clean with a balcony overlooking the district/greenery. No noise issues at all. It is a 10-15 minute walk from pub street, a few minutes from the river. There are excellent venues immediately opposite the hotel - call outs to Phalla restaurant (probably the best meals we had on our whole trip), Majestea (great coffee) and the (no English name) juice/shake shop. Hotel has many amenities including large pool which was very refreshing and gym (did not use). Extensive breakfast offering including egg station. Staff were super friendly, being a smaller hotel (estimate at 50 rooms) and our 5 night stay it felt like they knew us each time we came by. Would definitely stay here again. (BTW I was a little shocked when the hotel messaged to offer an airport transfer at USD45, having been to Siem Reap before and remembering how close the airport is to town. In late 2023 the airport was relocated to 45-60 minutes drive away so while a little more expensive than arranging it yourself, their fee is reasonable). Pool area has too few loungers. There were often guests wanting a lounger but all were occupied, with no other poolside seating despite a vast area that is unused.
