Great place to have traditional Khmer Cuisine
First thing you notice that it's a very busy restaurant- means great place. Both Tourists and Locals were dining. Decent ambience well lit (partly Al fresco). Despite almost full, we were attended promptly by busy yet eager waitresses who were well behaved. Drinks and food were served promptly (rather early) We ordered 02 x draught beer and a avocado shake, it arrived quickly with complimentary peanut snack. Bottled water for each one of us was complimentary too.
Nice vibe to restaurant. Fish massage is there at a corner, a video plays in background regarding Temples, good background English music too. Happy customers all around having a good time.
Coming to food- we ordered fish and chicken amok, requested them to be spicy. The staff accommodated our request and made it so... Both fish and chicken amok were served with accompanying rice. Quantity was sufficient taste was superb, and as requested- tailor-made spicy. All the above food plus drink was billed into 7 dollars (quite cheap). Only con- despite such busy restaurant,t don't accept cards. Would definitely recommend the chicken and /or fish amok. Peanuts are free with Draught beer @ 50...
Read moreWe ate here for lunch and were impressed with the food and value for money so returned the following evening. A small bottle of water and bowl of peanuts is provided free. At lunch time we had a basil and pork rice and a papaya salad. With 2 beers and a gin and tonic the bill was only 6.75 dollars. They do take cards but our waitress did not seem happy about it.
When we went the next day in the evening it looked packed and we're about to move away when we were called in and shown to a table from where a couple were leaving. We shared spring rolls which were not very good but followed up with roast fish with mango rice and roast pork both excellent. However the main lady was constantly shouting at the staff, and we were by the side of the main walkway into the restaurant so people were constantly coming and going past us. Extra chairs were being bought through to cram people in rather than caring for the comfort of those already in. We did not find it a very relaxing evening so did not return even though the food was largely good and...
Read moreThis is one of those generic tourist trap restaurants that all kind of look the same and have comically large menus. I should've followed my instincts and walked away when I saw the place but I'd been reading all the nonsense reviews on here.
It's a good job the price is still low because the I would be much more upset if I'd paid a lot for this food.
I ordered the fish amok. It's supposed to have a creamy, thick texture. This one was visibly watery and lumpy. Granted amok is not normally the most flavourful dish but this one was completely tasteless. It was definitely the worst amok I've eaten in Cambodia so far.
As a side I ordered the fried spring noodles. Actually there was nothing offensive about these, but nothing amazing either. They were pretty small but at least they were crispy. They come with regular sweet chilli sauce.
I would encourage people to do a bit more research and try and find some genuinely local and authentic khmer restaurants, instead of...
