I'd like to start out by saying that we've been here before and it was lovely! That being said, I don't know what happened last night. I reserved a table three days in advance and for whatever reason, we got placed in the other side right by tables of kids running around and a baby crying. I have kids. I get it. So I'm not judging. But I also paid for a not-so-cheap hotel sitter so that we could have a quiet date night and I requested that we be placed in the empty dining room area and he said it was full. Hmmm... Anyway, we decided that it was a first world problem and moved on. I ordered the three course meal which included salad, lobster stuffed salmon and dessert. My husband ordered the pasta special which was a bison lasagna. I got my salad and we got our rolls. And then it was just one thing after another that was a bit annoying. We had a hair in our butter. The salad dressing was very watery. When our meal arrived, my lobster stuffed salmon had four specs of lobster. Yes, specs. But the whole thing was floating in butter. My husband's bison lasagna was obviously burned. He said it had chunks of tasteless ground bison and complemented MY cooking (he was looking for brownie points, lol). By that point, we just wanted to get out of there. When the waitress finally arrived to ask how our meals were, I told her the issue and that I'd dab it off but to please mention to the chef that having an entire plate floating in butter is too much butter. I know that message didn't get to the chef. She came to clean our table and asked if there's anything else she can bring or just the bill. By then, I gave up. Um, yes! You've forgotten the third course of my meal! We just paid and left, no dessert for me. $50 for a three course meal and ugh. We ended our time there early and went to the Outpost Lounge. Should have ate there. My hubby thinks he's witty and on our way home, he said that it was 'a bit of a train wreck at the station tonight'. (Eye roll, but accurate). I hope you improve things but we likely...
Read moreThis is a restaurant you don't want to miss. Located at the end of it's own road in the Lake Louise village, it is the original train station in Lake Louise. As if on cue, a train roared past just as we sat down at our table. There is a ton of history in this building. Beautifully preserved antiques and photos from the late 1800's and early 1900's. So cool to look at them all. Gorgeous wood and beautifully decorated rooms. We were welcomed at the door with a lovely roaring fire. Our server, Meghan, was a delight our entire evening. She was friendly, professional, knowledgeable and lovely to chat with throughout our dinner. Service was exceptional and attentive. The food was exceptional as well. Meghan brought us delicious, warm, homemade buns with caraway seeds and flavoured butter to start. We ordered a side caesar salad to share and it arrived in a lovely presentation. The smoked peppercorn bacon added a delicious touch to a well balanced salad. Just the right amount of dressing too. We ordered the Alberta ribeye steak and the pork schnitzel. Both were a hit. The ribeye was perfectly grilled to a medium rare and served with crispy onions which paired beautifully together. The seasoning on the steak was perfect and every bite just melted in the mouth. We both chose the twice baked potato as our side and it was as delicious as it sounds. The pork schnitzel was pounded to a perfect thinness and came with a delicious light breading, exactly as presented on the menu. Lovely al dente vegetables ( rapini, grilled peppers and zucchini) accompanied our mains. The homemade pear chutney was a perfect marriage for the schnitzel. Not to be missed! Good selection of cocktails, beer and a good wine list to choose from. The portions are very generous as well. We managed to find a little room to share a dessert so we tried the maple pecan pie served with vanilla ice cream and a blueberry coulis. All in all, a perfect place for a special dinner or just a great choice if you appreciate great food,...
Read moreOne of the best food experiences ever, will definitely return for sure.
So it starts with a great setting as they have renovated the old railway station and they have kept quite a few antiques as well, coupled with the background of mountains, it was already a great start. The service was excellent.
Now onto the food: We ordered the appetizer platter for two, which had a bit of all available appetizers. It was great, it clearly showed how meticulously the chef had planned the flavours. The bruschetta was fresh and flavourful. meatballs were not chewy or dry and the gravy was pretty unique (different and better than anything I have ever had with a meatball). Shrimp was perfectly cooked and crisp. There was something with puff pastry with mushrooms and cheese, which probably took the most work to cook but was just average. Everything was made in a way that even when we took our time to eat, nothing got soggy or dry as the temperature changed.
As it was my birthday, we ordered the chocolate icecream sandwich, which came with jam and fruits to provide relief from decadent chocolate flavour, again ate very well.
Overall we were just wishing we were hungrier so we could have tried other dishes.
The ratings for any place in Lake Louise village were not great, so we didn't have any hopes from this place, but it over delivered in all aspects. Had a very satisfying birthday thanks to them. I would definitely keep it as one of the places to go to celebrate special occasions...
