This is not an easy review. I had mixed feelings about our experience at Gaucho. At one side the $60 dinner only per person did not deliver in freshness and quality, at another side they need grace considering the challenges and restrictions around COVID and managing such variety of meats with significantly less demand. This has been a hard season for them to stay afloat for sure. The have a beautiful place very well located in Canmore. The service was truly grate. I do believe they are very aware of the points I’m making here. A rodizio demands fresh meat, sizzling and freshly cut in your plate. The meat has to be super fresh. Most of the meat was dry and sitting in the skewers for way to long. I understand there are less people eating and they are trying their very best by still making it possible or feasible to serve. As a client it just does not seem fair to pay the same price for lower quality. As a Brazilian we are already making compromises in how other dishes like feijoada and salpicao are made to a western taste. Items like chicken hearts are certainly more exotic but if it was served fresh it would keep it’s natural taste and remain moist - we understand not everyone would like it or appreciate it. But to serve frozen chicken hearts overcooked, probably best to stop serving instead of giving people a chance to really appreciate it when it’s fresh and properly done. The feeling is that we would probably wait for things to get better around the pandemic before going again. We wish them the very best and we will be back some time in the future. I will reconsider this review.

We came to Canmore for a weekend couple’s getaway. We booked Gaucho in advance for our special dinner. It was the perfect date night location. The service was top-notch, the food was superb, and the ambiance was lovely. We’d been to Brazilian bbq in Calgary and had some expectations for how the night would go. Gaucho exceeded our expectations. The meat quality is excellent - everything was served hot and fresh. My favorite was the rib-eye. It was served perfectly rare, and I loved the horseradish sauce that came with it. The sides were also delicious. We only got the Caesar salad and mushrooms, but that was the perfect light accompaniment for all of the meat. The drinks were delicious as well. And we thoroughly enjoyed our trio of desserts. The staff were very attentive and courteous. We received prompt service throughout our evening. Parking can be a little tricky but not it’s not as busy as it is during the day. We were able to find a spot on the street right in front of the restaurant. Overall I highly recommend Gaucho for a special night out. It is 100% worth the price.

What a way to ruin my son's 21st Birthday !!!

Let me first start by saying, the food was excellent... for as long as it lasted !! For the first 30 minutes we could not keep up with the amazing meat selections being offered to us, so much so that we hardly had chance to enjoy or taste the food. Before we had chance to turn over "our red /green we are full sticker" the meat dramatically stopped. We then saw 3 chefs over the next 45 minutes and our server once !! When placing our order initially everything seemed okay, the fact it took our server nearly 7 minutes to come to us should have been our first clue to how our evening would go !! For the three of us, two of our extra drinks never arrived, the water we asked for, three times, arrived as we got ready to pay the bill !! Each of us ordered two sides..mistake ! Only three turned up, which we pointed out twice, my side of Chicken stroganoff turned up cold, but that was fine according to our Server ! Our server spent more time at the Bar "playing sudoku" on his phone than he did serving us. We tried very hard to engage our server in conversation, particularly as we speak Spanish and have an understanding of Portuguese. That did not go well, but we did find out the our server had been here for two years, so tonight was not his first night as we might have first thought !! My beer, that I ordered at the start arrived just in time for me to pay the bill, but it was the wrong beer...order Tea get a Coffee, that's fine, it's still a hot drink .... NO !!!! The canned music and the 1950s movie on the TV in corner did not help at all with the atmosphere.... why is there a TV in the restaurant in the first place ? The only nice thing about the meal was the free dessert given to my Son.

$350 for three, with no dessert, no wine, three cocktails seems a little excessive ? We would love to comeback again, even if the first 30 minutes was frenetic, but not at these prices and with this poor service. It was such a HUGE...

We have had many rodizio bbq experiences throughout the last ten years. Perhaps 5 years ago we were in Canmore for our anniversary and had the best experience ever from food to service! We would at that time recommend it to everyone. We went back today as we were visiting Canmore again and had the absolute worst experience ever!! We understand the aspect of how they cook the meat and unfortunately most of what was sent out for beef was between raw and blue rare. Now I like it rare but I could not eat it let alone my family. I asked if they could send out or give us the option of medium rare or medium and everything after that they sent to the table was well done and dry. I mentioned to our server and it didn’t get any better. By the look on her face, she couldnt have cared less. The service in general was very poor. The gauchos (meat servers) would come to the table and reach over all of our food from the far side of the table for no reason as we were on the opposite side of the table. If I asked for one piece I would get two or three. The well done meat was also ridiculously seasoned to the point where my wife couldn’t eat anything after because the amount of salt they used literally gave her mouth a salt burn!! (And she loves salt!!) The mashed potatoes and the rice were cold when they served them to us. The side of beets was not a side of beets. It was a salad of rucula, perhaps a teaspoon worth of crumbed feta and a total of 4 small pieces of beet. Definitely not as described. The only items out of everything on the menu that was even remotely good was the little cheese buns, Caesar salad and pineapple cucumber salad. Hardly worth it for 180$. Myself and my family left before we had actually even eaten enough as the food was so poor we couldn’t eat it anymore. I will never go back and do not recommend it to anyone!!!! I would give it zero...

I feel very sad. I have to write this review in such low rating. It’s not our first time visiting this restaurant in Canmore, we actually used to love it until yesterday. First of all they change their salad menus, and then the new salad. They won’t even bother to stir the veggies. And the salads were pretty much very mediocre. In comparison to last visits, of course. Took them around 35 minutes to start start dishing out the meats, The meats were very dry for my taste. Unfortunately I am pregnant now, so I have to eat everything well done when I told him that they took around 15 minutes each time to bring me a small tiny piece of meat that was burnt. And all I had yesterday is maybe two pieces of chicken. My husband was Disappointed as they brought maybe eight of the cut in the whole time that we sat there instead of 15 as they always promise. We never like to complain, but My husband decided to talk to the manager in order to explain that all I had to eat is Maybe 50 g of meat and chicken all in all. My husband decided to go and talk to the manager because we felt as it wasn’t fair to pay $68 for a person that didn’t even get to eat the meat and only had salads. I’m gonna say again this is not our first time in this place. We are not trying to get free stuff but really it wasn’t fair yesterday. The manager did an exception and gave us $12 off the bill. Absolutely ridiculous. Another note to make they take so long to bring out the meat so you’re already full on fries and salad that it feels like a trick for you to not eat the meat and them to profit more . I don’t think we’ll ever be back because we feel the manager didn’t even care about our situation. We used to love this place, but I don’t...
