Really disappointing. It's a popular joint and that's wonderful to see as it enlivens this once-moribund corner. First impressions are very good- it's clean and bright and the menu looks great. But so much is wrong here. First, orders are called out by a person with a quiet voice and nobody can hear them. That was frustrating. Now, that wouldn't have mattered if the food had been better, but after a long wait (maybe 30 minutes from the time I entered until I had my order) the food was not good. I got the ham and cheese egg sandwich which promised "egg club," chili, and hollandaise sauces, but it still managed to be DRY. The bread tasted stale, the sauces seemed nonexistent, and the rolled eggs and ham only were on the top part of the sandwich. Worse, possibly, was that I paid $3.50 for a medium (that's the smallest size and I HATE how many businesses do this, starting at "medium") "fresh orange juice." That's what it's called on the menu- and most people, including me, would take "fresh" to mean "freshly squeezed." It's absolutely not fresh-ly squeezed. It's just "fresh" Tropicana or whatever, as if they're boasting that their OJ isn't past expiry. I didn't like anything here and if I want a good Korean-style egg sandwich, I'm heading to JusFruit. This one was...
Read moreWe recently stopped by Egg Club to try out their popular breakfast sandwiches. While I have to give credit where it’s due. The staff was incredibly friendly and the service was great but the meal itself unfortunately missed the mark.
I ordered the Bacon Cheese sandwich (Japanese Milk Bread, Folded Eggs, Thick Cut Bacon, Cheese, Egg Club Sauce with Creamy Chili Sauce), and while the ingredients sounded delicious, the execution was lacking. The bread was slightly burnt, which really took away from the fluffy, soft texture Japanese milk bread is known for. On top of that, the hash brown I ordered on the side was completely burnt. I didn't even eat it. Sadly, I didn’t snap a photo, but it was disappointing enough to leave untouched.
My wife ordered the Ham and Cheese version, and hers was done much better. She actually enjoyed it, so maybe I just got unlucky with mine.
One thing to note, the outside of the restaurant was surrounded by construction fencing, which didn’t help the overall vibe. Parking was also a bit of a hassle. We had to find a spot down the road and walk back up.
All in all, while the staff made us feel welcome, the food and overall experience just didn’t live up to expectations. Not sure I’d go out of my...
Read moreI've been a fan of EggClub since my Toronto days, so when I heard they opened up shop in Calgary, I was thrilled. My sister and I even got coupons via email, which got us even more excited. We both cleared our schedules to visit on the 12th, only to find out they were sold out for the day upon arrival.
While I totally get that things happen and supplies can run low, it was a bummer not to be able to use our coupons as planned. It would've been awesome if there was a backup plan for coupon holders, like extending the redemption period or offering an alternative date, especially as I'm sure we're not the only ones who found ourselves in this situation.
Despite the hiccup, we're still eager to swing by in the future and give EggClub a proper try someday. It's just a shame we missed out this time around and weren't able to redeem our coupons.
Edit: It's truly heartening to see a business go above and beyond to address customer concerns. After my review, Timothy personally reached out to me and even offered to reserve ingredients for our future visit. Knowing they prioritize their patrons' experiences makes me even more eager to continue supporting their delicious sandwiches and...
