Medina Cafe & Grill Sheesha Lounge — Restaurant in Calgary

Absolutely terrible service by the owner! Had a few guests visit me from abroad so I took them here for some dessert and tea no one was feeling shisha, got there 3 hours before they close. From the start they had a huge attitude, it was 6 of us. We ordered 2 milkshakes 2 desserts and 2 Somali teas. After the guy takes our order he says to us we only have 30 minutes but they close at 2am and it was completely dead, they were acting as if it’s a full house. I go up to get cards and the owner says “since you are a regular here I’ll let it go but you guys need to order a shisha next time otherwise I can’t have you guys here”, I apologized and told him no one wanted shisha just some dessert and tea and he said “it’s ok”. I continued on. The dessert was very stale the milkshakes tasted like straight syrup with whip cream and water and tea had more sugar than tea, extremely sweet. We ignored all that and it was time to go up and pay. The owner once again told me that “next time everyone has to order something and a shisha otherwise don’t come, now this is very disrespectful, i straight up told him there won’t be a next time and after my receipt printed I showed him there was 6 people with 6 items on the receipt and he said the desserts don’t count everyone needs a drink. So I spoke up and said us spending close to $60 in 30 minutes is not enough for you?? and he said I’m being disrespectful. My brother spoke up and he told him to shut up, I said now your being disrespectful, words were exchanged and we left.

Me and my friends use to be regulars here every Saturday 3-4 would come and spend about $100-$200 here on food that is just superstore frozen Patty’s warmed up and slapped in a bun and shisha which is the worst in the city just for the patio since they were open late. A few of my friends would always tell me about the bad experiences they had here and I would always back these guys up, never again. I finally saw the owners true side and how greedy and money hungry he is. Even though he is old no one deserves to be treated like how he treats his customers. Would rather go elsewhere! Shouldn’t even be called a cafe and grill. The owner is extremely cheap as-well the shishas are the same from the past 13 years with old hoses. Who knows what types of bacteria and diseases are in their pipes. In the 5 years he’s owned it he’s so cheap he can’t even fix it up a bit extremely dirty wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a mice infestation there as-well.

Canada Day July 1, 2023. I had an amazing night hanging out with friends. And we decided to eat somewhere before we go on our separate ways after club hopping. I recommended to go to Medina cause I always go there. The Russian lady is super nice BUT the Owner or the Manager RUINED MY ENTIRE NIGHT! First I went to the bar to ask if I could get my phone charge. And the old owner asked where I was sitting so I pointed our table. He was not sure if I am a customer or not so he walk to our table and look for me. Then I have to go to pick up my other drunk friend and leave. I gave cash to my friend to pay for my food and I told my server that I have to go and my friends will pay for my cheap meal. So I said my goodbyes to my friends and I went to front to grab my phone. So when I was about to leave. The old and nasty Owner stopped me and insist that my friends already left and I need to pay for our bills. I told him there are still there and ask my server. He doesn't believe me that I got so mad and I told him to come with me in our table to show him that my friends are there. I was super embarrassed to other servers and customer that the owner think I am poor that cannot afford a cheap meal. I have to show him my hundred dollar bills in my purse that I am not poor that will just dine and dash!! I NEVER TREATED LIKE A CRIMINAL! P.S. I was wearing fancy clothes with Gucci purse for him to think im poor that won't pay for our food. It was so disgusting that an idiot business owner can ruined a customer's night and treated horribly. He is the one look so poor and broke. DISGUSTING!!! I will give negative Star if I can. Never Set Foot in Medina Cafe!

I'm absolutely livid after my experience at Medina Cafe! This place is a disgrace from start to finish, and I can't hold back my anger any longer.

First off, they have the nerve to advertise their food as halal when it's clear as day that it's not! How dare they deceive customers like that?! It's insulting and disrespectful to anyone who cares about their dietary preferences.

And don't even get me started on their sneaky extra charges! They think they can just make up fees on the spot and get away with it? No way! It's nothing but a cheap, underhanded trick to squeeze every last dime out of unsuspecting customers. Disgusting!

As if that wasn't bad enough, the staff are the rudest bunch of people I've ever had the displeasure of encountering. When I asked to split the bill, you would have thought I had insulted their mothers! Their hostility and aggression were completely uncalled for.

And let's talk about the shisha—burnt to a crisp every single time! Do they even know how to prepare it properly? It's like they're trying to ruin the one thing they're supposed to be good at!

Medina Cafe, you are an absolute disgrace. Your deceitful practices, money-grabbing tactics, and downright appalling customer service have earned you a permanent place on my blacklist. I wouldn't set foot in your establishment again if...
