Point Sushi - Bullet Train Sushi Bar — Restaurant in Calgary

I came here for my nieces birthday because she wanted to try it. There was free parking underground just for the restaurant, but it's a very tight squeeze to get in if one side of the garage is full.

In the beginning, you are intrigued by the train and the fun experience, but that quickly goes downhill once you see the prices and portion sizes.

The tablet to order food does not move, so the people sitting closest to it must order all the food for the table, it's quite frustrating. You can order 4 items at a time and send the order through before ordering your next 4 items- this includes 4 waters or 4 gluten free soy sauce/ spicy mayo, 4 order of 2 pieces of nigiri. So if you have a table of 6 wanting waters, that's an order and a half of just waters. All drinks are served on the train, even regular water. I found it to be a waste of time. Water can just be served by servers. There is a hot water tap on the table for tea. So you barely see a server come around, unless they are collecting plates.

We didn't want to order sashimi because it's 3 pieces for $8. The mochi ice cream is 2 small pieces cut in half to make 4, but on the menu display it looks like 3 whole pieces, not really worth it. The spicy Salmon rolls and tuna rolls are soooo tiny. 4 come in one portion but it's basically like eating 1.5 regular rolls in a regular sushi restaurant. We decided to just order regular Salmon rolls and an order of spicy mayo to get more bang for our buck. The spicy Salmon had spicy mayo and maybe scallions mixed in and a dollop of sriracha on top.

One order of beef tataki was put in by mistake by our table and that was $8 for 5 pieces.

The SHIO RAMEN was worth it for the price $7.

We weren't able to find some of the items displayed on the wall menu on the tablet like the salmon avocado bowl. Finished off with BLACK SESAME ICE CREAM for $4.

In total for my husband and I, with tax came to $82.95, and we did not order a ton of food.

If you have a large appetite, this probably won't satisfy you unfortunately. I had high hopes from this place as a client recommended it (and her husband is a chef) but maybe the quality had gone down since they last went. If you come here I would say you're paying more for the experience more than anything else. If you're looking for a really good sushi meal for an affordable price, this isn't the place. Background story: My boyfriend had always wanted to go to Sakana Grill at 2nd Ave since summer but they've been close for renovation so we tried again to go today and it was finally open but the restaurant's name changed to Point Sushi. According to one of the employees, they still have the same owner but the restaurant now have a different name.

First impression of the outer layout: I personally wouldn't have approached the building by myself just because the outer appearance and the location looks sketchy to me. It is a little bit hidden as well and the signages aren't that appealing.

First impression of the inside: The vibrancy of the restaurant was very visible once we've approached the door. It was like entering Narnia. The layout of the restaurant inside is very different outside. It was really attractive and could be Instagram worthy. I love the blend of their white and brown walls, it give a very cozy atmoshpere. I wasn't able to take a picture though because there was a lot of people. We were greeted by an employee upon entry and he lead us to our table. He explained to us how we take orders and where we can take the extra utensils we need/want.

Food: Their food are great! We ordered 9 items, excluding our water, for $37 which is not bad considering the food taste good. My boyfriend liked their sushi and I really liked their Beef Teriyaki On Rice. It taste like it was barbecued even the veggies. I really liked the little crispiness of it. The food was served less than 5 minutes so we were happy about that.

The bullet trains made it exciting and fun as well.

Service: The staffs were friendly and were quick with delivering my Shirley Temple. We didn't have a designated server though, we had at least 3 different employees approach our table and they were quick with picking up our dirty plates.
